Sonic Circuits is new to me, including the non-festival shows they sponsor. (Hey, I can go watch Henry Kaiser play on Sunday and maybe ask him about crystal lettuce!)

Let me know when your here and I can give you the royal tour! :thumb:

But to answer your questions here's my top three of each:

Guitar Shops
1) Atomic Music http://www.atomicmusic.com <- used gear heaven
2) Action Music http://www.actionguitar.com <- boutique gear heaven
3) Chuck Levins http://www.chucklevins.com <- mainstream and touring gear heaven

Venues:
1) Black Cat DC http://www.blackcatdc.com
2) 9:30 Club http://www.930.com
3) Rock N Roll Hotel http://www.rockandrollhoteldc.com
4) The entire U street corridor, its hard to explain but once your here you'll understand as there's literally 30 different venues on this street. But the ones to check out are Velvet Lounge, DC9 and the U ST Music Hall.

As far as guitar and luthier repair all three of the guitar stores I have listed have repair shops inside them. I personally would recommend Action Music for both guitar and tube amp repair, but depending on what your looking to have done I do guitar setups, pickup installs, hardware changes, assembly, etc.

Welcome to the Asshole of America.

Cheers man, I will probably hit you up about that kind offer. Links much appreciated, I hadn't discovered most of those. Not needing to work full-on means time on my hands so intend to use the opportunity before returning to expeNZive land.

I'll be on foot and public transport until the US license is achieved. The wife and I want something with balls, that will guzzle your cheap gas like we wouldn't (and couldn't afford) in NZ. A mustang or chev, etc, - we'll most likely get another granny Toyota though. Car is purely for exploring beyond the city.

On another note. How does Noise Control work?

Anytime my friend!!! Unofrtunately most of the guitar shop websites are never quite up to date, especially Atmoic whose entire inventory can change in a week and they don't even list 10% of what they have. If your going to have a lot of time on your hands theres alot of beautiful stuff to see around DC, there's countless parks and monuments plus all the museums. It's easy to kill time in DC and still learn stuff.

Finally in the hood, culture shock going on... mostly over the damn size of the food and the supermarkets with High Fructose Corn Syrup in nearly everything!

Action music, damn guys, you have no idea how affordable USA music gear is compared to the rest of the world, I mean, little ole New Zealand.

Thank fuck I left my pick and credit card at home when I went there. Travis Bean guitar and Kubicki bass...

Food trucks rock.

I'm going to petition the White House to see if we can change our name to the United States of High Fructose Corn Syrup.

Thanks, jrmy.

I remember once showing a friend a list of proposed song titles and they told me "those would all make great band names".

If only I could only capitalize on that, my business card would have the title "Band Namer".
