Let's talk about you and me let's talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be... Let's talk about Texas...
Little known fact, I was born here in a town called Temple and sometimes when I say I was born in Temple people think I'm Jewish... Denton is the only cool part about Texlahomasaw which is everything N/NE of Waco, so you gotta travel down I-35 to the Hill Country and down S to Mexico to get a grasp... Houston is the most ethnically diverse city in the US and has been the 2nd biggest immigration destination after NY... The Alamo is tiny and there is a Ripley's Believe It or Not around the corner which is more fun... El Paso has the most strip clubs per capita that I've seen this side of Orlando... You can drive straight all day and never leave Texas... The Rio Grande Valley or RGV is pretty cool and it feels like you're in another county, plus they live by their own laws down there so be careful... Most people in Texas are friendly but there is a ginormous Good Ol' Boys Club here which I'm sure you and anyone from the S is aware of so you have to watch your mouth unless you can back it up... People in Texas like to (I hate this term) work hard and play hard, so there is always something going on in whatever shit hole town you might find yourself in... There is more but I'll save it for chapter 2...
Basically, if you want to find some fucking rednecks, you sure will. BUT, that's true for all of america. All the points made here are correct. Plus, the music scene is tight. You could totally just tour texas.
I heard all the roads have an extra horsey lane for dem cowboys and that if you lasso a lady you have to marry them at a chapel in the middle of nowhere presided over by a priest in a poncho. I also heard that it gets hot but also cold.

I have had a miserable time in Texas everytime I have been there. However Denton was cool, there were a lot of "what the fuck" moments that happened while I was there, but it wasn't the city's fault.
El Paso isn't that bad. Scarred white people hype it up to be a scary place but it's actually one of the safest cities in the US. And there is a small but decent music scene too. Jim Ward from At The Drive In owns a few venues and a bar down town. Sonic Ranch is a huge studio just outside of town where YYYs, Pantera, and a bunch of other bands have recorded albums. But most Texans view anything after San Angelo as West Texas and anything after Midland as Mexico.
