Gotta say, Vaudeville Villain is probably my favorite DOOM album...it's dark and gritty (meets comic books and video games, as usual), but so funny! Fuckin' reference to Mitsurugi to boot.

Damn right, it is! One of my top 5 hip hop albums of all time. Maybe even #1.

mc serch is wholly underrrated
IDK, I was never a fan of Serch. He's pretty weak. Definitely prefer PM Pete Nice's mic skills.

Love Doom and own most of his cd's. Ranks right up there with Kool Keith for me.
Here's some of his earlier stuff with KMD. Fucking awesome.

serch was a pivotal dude in the rap game tho. he helped put alot of dope cats on. nas, nonphixion to name a couple. that was more my point. 3rd bass & serch kinda fell off into obscurity as some corny white dude rappers (which they kinda are), but they are a big part of the game/culture.

Yeah, I like that first 3rd Bass album a lot, but they really kinda fell off after that. They didn't have the staying power. I don't totally dislike Serch, he's merely OK. There're a lot of other behind the scenes people who're way more important than him though. He has his place in Hip Hop history, it's just not a very large one.

If you're a fan of mc chris you'd probably like MF Doom too, right? What would you suggest for a newb?

If your only prior experience is MC Chris, Doom may come off as a bit blunted. Lyrically they aren't great matches either. The first Das Racist tapes might be a better starting place for you.

In terms of Doom though, MM...Food or the collab with Danger mouse might good fits

Madvillany and Sofa King are my favorites.
Glad this thread exists - I never knew how many projects he had been a part of. I'm totally going to delve into some of his older stuff
