i'd go ahead and put it out there. i've gotten a little static occasionally for disagreeing with the general consensus here. i still don't hear what's so wonderful about ...And Aardvarks, for example. but they're just opinions...if people are going to have mad cows about it that's their problem.

whether a review is good or bad, if you can say specifically what you get or don't get out of a pedal, it will be helpful. right?

I'm not sure if I was clear enough with the source of my hesitation. I'm not 'afraid' to write a bad review or to speak my mind. That was probably the wrong word for me to use. I was more just interested in the thought behind being the FIRST - or one of the first - to call something out as B.S.. It was really just meant to be a funny rhetorical post.

I bought a pedal (not a KLON! Didn't I say that, already?) that has only positive reviews and buzz, and don't see what all the fuss is about. In fact, I thought it was actually a pretty horrible sounding pedal, honestly. Im not sure how/why anyone would use it at all. When I am seemingly the only person who thinks this.. it makes me question my judgement for a minute. I try to be as subjective as possible with new gear and NOT just think about how it works in my personal setup. I ran one of the best guitar stores in the country for 3 years and am generally considered to have a very good ear (sorry if that makes me sound like a dick). I have bought/sold/owned THOUSANDS of pedals. Easily. Every once in a while something new to me comes along - I plug it in - it blows me away. (For example the 2002-ish Menatone Red Snapper, 1997/8 Fuzz Factory, Strymon Timeline) I hear it and think - this is a great pedal. Even if not for everyone.. this is a hit. Then I come across things like the klon and think.. so? So what? Fancy box? High price? What's NEW or DIFFERENT or GREAT about this? And for the most part, my thoughts are fairly in sync with the rest of the guitar playing public. (us fuzz nerds and blues lawyers included)

So when something seems totally ridiculous - it just makes me question either myself or everyone else. I think - am I losing it? Do I not know what people like any more? Are my ears shot? Am I stuck in some sort of sonic rut? Or is it possible that this pedal just... sucks.

I've felt this way about maybe half of the "trend" pedals to be honest.

You just described how I feel about D*A*M. And fucking EVERYone loves them. And I just don't get what is so mind-spoogingly awesome about another 500 dollar (if you're lucky) Tonebender. There's nothing new, or innovative, or ground-breaking about a part-for-part NOS clone of a 50-year-old pedal. But that's just my opinion. And if someone gets their jollies off on it, more power to 'em

I've never been in the situation (because I don't really ever write reviews of pedals), but I would think there are lots of people with lots of different tastes and needs. No one pedal is going to satisfy all of those needs. So for every pedal, it's bound to have somebody who just doesn't have any use for it or doesn't like it's range of sounds.

I'd say it's even MORE helpful if you're the one person pointing this out. That way, if someone else is in a similar situation and looking for something similar to what you were when you bought that pedal, they'll know its not for them.

Reviews that say what a pedal is not good for are just as, if not more, helpful than any other rave review.

Actually, I only read bad reviews because if some one loves it they love it, where is someone hates it they will pick it apart and expose everything about it..., or they are a dumbass... which is easy to tell anyway..
