You know, we're all gonna die of something someday. Is it really such a big deal if we all go at once? Not like the human race is contributing much to the universe anyway. I mean, we can barely get our lazy asses off this planet into low orbit. Would anyone, even in our own galaxy miss us? I'm guessing not, especially if we're 'all alone' out here....

I think we have more to fear from ourselves than we do solar flares, mega-volcanoes, rogue asteroids, alien invasions, polar reversals, or the resurection (again) of an angry hebruit.

Just a thought.

Anyway, I don't want to seem ungrateful, so... HAPPY NOT DESTROYED DAY!!! I knew we could do it! :thumb:

This.
In Australia there were people still nervous today when they knew it was still December 21st in America because of the time zone difference..
Anyway, feels good to be alive (just like every other day, ever).

A coworker has a friend who works at a shooting range/gun shop. She said the friend revealed that in a 72 hour period they sold all their AR-15s (how many could they possibly have) and all of their high capacity handguns and all of their ammo.

Considering the amount of asleep paranoid people in this town; I have a feeling that that has nothing to do with "Mayan Prophecy" though.

Over zealous a-hole.

Exactly, it's not, and death really doesn't have to be a big deal. It's an integral part of life anyway.

Well it's fun, why spoil the party. And we DO after all have pretty neat potential as shown in the ISS video and here:

And that's why I love the human race.

I truly believe we have finally matured as a civilization, and that our consciousness is evolving daily now. Just check out the 21st century enlightenment, check out the loads of great initiatives in the world that are about peace, about sharing, about preserving the environment, switching the political and financial models that don't work anymore. We shouldn't focus on the bad sides, we should act our best and be an example to the world around us. Change comes from within, the world follows.

And that's what the Mayan calender of consciousness was all about, really. :)

Not to be a negative nancy or anything, but from my philosophical perspective that's totally horse shit and incoherent ramblings. :idk: I'd say understanding is coming to terms with the randomness and chaos of the universe, accepting the idea that perceived patterns may be nothing more than coincidental perceptions, and learning to use the rationality of your own, (ideally) unbiased perspective to make the best of it.

For a general example, there are statistically more people who check in to mental facilities during a full moon. Some people might assume a correlation. Some people might go so far as to say that full moons cause the number of people checking into mental health facilities to rise. However, by that same logic from a human's perception (ignoring some science), you could just as reasonably argue that the larger number of people checking in is in fact what causes the full moon. Given that, it seems so much more reasonable to assume the correlation is nothing but a coincidence and there is no actually connection besides a statistical correlation.

but that's just me :idk:

We could all just be living inside the matrix as tests are being devised to test that theory, lol: http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/11/3487 ... rsity-bonn

Myth debunked: http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/20 ... 114255.htm My gf was saying that the assisted living nursing home gets crazier on full moon days, I called BS. Anybody can say that anything correlates to any other thing. Doesn't mean it's right though. Just food for thought.

Yeah, that was my point. Just because there are visible patterns doesn't mean...well it doesn't mean anything.

I just never realized there were researchers bored enough to study that with any sort of depth.

Exactly! People like to play connect the dots. Just because there are dots doesn't mean they're in the same pattern or even make up a pattern at all. Over time humans have learned a lot from nature and it's no wonder that human structures mirror patterns found in nature. Same goes for music and writing music; if I listen to a lot of alternative music I'm more inclined to write songs that sound like what I've been listening to. That's kind of a generic example but anyway...

Those aren't bored researchers, those are paid researchers, lol. No doubt that's where some of our tax payer money is going!

I love it when my rants spark philisophical debate!

Yeah, my gf too was a nurse in a dementia care assisted living place for 2 years. she was amazed at the superstituous behaviour of 'educated' healthcare professionals who claimed an increase in odd behaviour of the residents during full moons, or waxing moons, or waining moons, or eclipses, or whenever an astrological phenomenon made it convenient for them to invent a reason for such odd behavior beyond the fact that the residences were actually clinically demented!
