HEADPHONES... Your recommendations?

I picked up a pair at GC yesterday (cause I have no patience) a pair of the AKG K240 Studio.
They seem to not stock anything above $150 (fuckers) but so far these are pretty nice.

The real test will come later when I bring it to the studio. If they don't absolutely WOW me, I'll return them and try a pair of the $250 K240 MKII.
I also put the Audio Technica, Sony, and Sennheiser on my list to try.

Keep the suggestions coming. Mucho appreciation!

Dude, dude. Best Buy has some good ones that are studio grade. WAY more expensive too. I have a pair from GC and my complaint is they hurt my ears because of how intense the lows and highs are. They just don't seem to interpret sound very well. Then again, I don't think the human ear is really made to be enclosure by that much sound. You know...deafness and all that.

I've been using AKG K240 for years
I like the big cans that cover my whole ears rather than squeeze uselessly against them

Are you referring to the K240 Studio ($99) or K240 MKII ($199) ?

MKII is new so I probably have the studio ones sure as hell didn't cost me $99 though! that's a bargain!

Is the frequency response flat enough to try and mix music through them? nb: I realise I'm not getting "studio quality" in a 20 buck headphone...

Beyer Dynamic DT880 is really well balanced. Comfortable as well. DT770 if u are not ready for that kind of money.

Sennheiser HD25 if u are doing a lot of bassy/electronic stuff.

Sony 7506 is ok, the highs might be piercing for some.

I have these 4 and have another AKG that I wouldn't recommend... DT880 FTW, and they are fairly close to what u get from monitor speakers.

Anyone try KRK Headphones yet? I love my KRK monitors so I'm wondering if that translates to their headphones

I'm not sure if they would work for mixing, but I immediately fell in live with my bowers & wilkins p1 not sure about the number but the non in ear headphones that company makes. They sound the best from all headphones I tried and they are sturdy as damn, because its all real metal and not just plastic and shit. Guess that is not entirely relevant if you intend them for studio use but I carry mine around a lot and damn I love them. Even though it feels a little weird to carry something like that that makes you a perfect target to get mugged but maybe that is just me being paranoid. Fuck growing up in Lisbon in the 80s. I have tried some other headphones (intended for mibility, not studio) and even the better known branded ones like AKG or Sennheiser did not sound nearly as good as these guys. Given a second thought - I would mix on them. Very natural sounding to me without the usual boosts in bass that seem unavoidable in headphones.

Ok, got a chance to try out the AKG k240 MKII and while they sounded fantastic, they weren't that much "better" than the $99 K240 studio. (at least not an extra $150 better)

I'm gonna hang on to the K240 Studio and see how it holds up. It sounded fantastic the last few days in the studio where I really got to hear the limits of what it can do.
Lows didn't fart out at pretty high volumes and the midrange and top end sounded bright but not harsh.
