That general sort of thing is as good enough topic as any I think. I haven't ever listened to They Might Be Giants, but why not just 'What do you think is the best band around and why?'

They are musical giants, if not giants in the physical sense.

Love it!
One of these days, I'm going to start a They Might Be Giants cover band and call it They Might Be They Might Be Giants.

i think this cover band idea has legs. perhaps an 801 cover band called 400.5. or a Jefferson Airplane tribute band called Adams Shuttlecraft.

I like how he's trying to be all individualistic, but really just spouting a bunch of post-modern idioms/generic talking points.
Seriously, all the pessimism and suspicion I see these days just seems like people are being so anti-establishment they've become the same kind of sheeple they feared just in the opposite direction. Nobody is really thinking for themselves when they are against something. They just don't have any good ideas of their own.
A guy shouting on the street corner telling me what I should think is the exact opposite of the kind of intelligent society I want to live in.
Not really any singular point to debate in that I know. Maybe just venting.
Here's a point: Revolution (in the colloquial, post-marxist conception) is an outdated idea based on the premise of an ultimate truth worth fighting for. Except in extreme cases of dictatorships and theocracies, or at least in the Western world, classical liberal ideals (individualism, democracy, etc.) have become so ingrained in our society and gov't that the general framework for their implication has been established. However, gradual and responsible changes to tweak the infrastructure and the actual realities of those ideals are still required and a better course of action that extremist overhaul. (ok maybe I'll just limit this point to the US)

Well then, the subtle thing that video was supposed to do (and what it did!

) was to make you think. The point is to question everything, including yourself, to find facts, to see the world as it is - and not as someone portrays it to be. And that's basically what these guys are doing in a satirical way. Nobody is expecting you to believe them, find out for yourself, that's the best possible way to learn.
This is just a kind of a reality-check so to speak.
Like what Carlin or Hicks did.
