It depends on what kind of activity you're doing. I'm all for being a goofball and breaking rules or just being a totally subversive joker, but I also really enjoy some pleasant, healthy competition. I'm not super-competitive, but if I'm playing a game, I want it to be played properly. That's the POINT of the game. Somebody had an idea, tried out some different things, and created a set of rules to make the game work optimally.

In games like Cornhole, Ladderball, Horseshoes, Chess, whatever... these games have rules that you follow in order for the game to work. Otherwise... would you feel good about winning a game that had rules that were just optional?

I often have this problem with my friends and the above-mentioned games... "Why can't we just toss the bag into the hole and just do that and 'enjoy' ourselves?" Because that's not the point. Don't fuck around with me when we're playing Balderdash... this is how the game goes, and that is the way we will play it. Otherwise, why bother?

That's why I never understood why anyone would want to cheat at a game. Cheaters are the worst people ever.

When we're playing Contra...if you aren't the kinda person who rushes for the spread shot and then deliberately dies with it to piss me off, you're doing it wrong.

How do you make lizard or llama with your hand?

I can make a lizard but not with my hand...

Omg I woke up today feeling the same way. Just generally hating people who choose to be bitchy and suspicious all the time. I think its because I had to be around my boss for close to 4 hours yesterday, and she is the most insufferable person I've ever met. This woman will subtly but directly insult you to your face but not even realize it. Is being mildly pleasant and compassionate so difficult or undesirable?

And now I need to sit through a meeting with my academic advisor where my dad is coming along to ask about an inane line of questioning which I have explained to him countless times.

i would totally love to come to Croatia...my first wife's family was Croatian on her father's side, and they were great crazy people! her grandmother was the first woman in Chicago to own a motorcycle, and was also an incredibly expert quilter, knitter, and crocheter. sadly, my finances make a visit rather unlikely.

I've played spades with people that were all super-serious about shit. And I have a friend who is a super-mega serious Uno player. haha

I mostly like to take things easy and not get too snippy about rules, especially when it comes to things that are supposed to be fun.

However, I can, on some level, understand why certain rules can actually make things more fun. Back in college, we got so good at foosball that we started creating new rules to make the game more difficult and to virtually eliminate "luck" from the game.

Lol. Am I the only one that thinks the opposite?

I've become so sick of noone taking anything seriously that it is making me actually avoid a lot of people I know. I feel like they waste my time.

The worst is when they say something like "Take it easy, just have fun."

I'm fucking trying to have fun so stop dicking around and take this shit seriously. Or at least, if you're not going to be serious, don't involve me.

Yeah while I hate funless people, if you're playing a game that has rules, why would you let someone play by different rules? I don't think that a wrong move should upend a whole game and make everyone's pussies hurt, but if I'm playing correctly and giving my best two cards, why should one player not have to? If it's not important to win, why play wrong? I play baseball with my son. He's not good at it yet, but I don't beat him with a belt like that guy in the news. However if we're playing Scrabble (my game of choice also), I know my kid knows how to spell, so I'm not going to let him throw a bunch of consonants in a row to keep him happy. That's not fun for me.

All that said they were definitely being dicks for talking down to you, so fuck 'em.

My suggestion to the OP is to make new friends and/or move out, or find a game that your housemates won't take so seriously.

If someone called me a "cheater" and was going to talk shit like they did to the OP, they wouldn't be my friend.

Yeah it seems so. I'm either going to lighten up myself and just get into the serious business competition between roommates and learn how to really fuck with them while playing their game, or just saty away from them for a while and let them do the lightening up. Their won't be a compromise, that's just not how they think unfortunately. Really blows ass.

Their actually is. One thing I have realized, especially this morning playing some video games with the kid, is that if a woman is around, he's suddenly the alpha male in the house who has to have the final say. The funny part is the only woman happens to be his girlfriend anyways. I can't say anything to her (or hell any other male for that fact) without him becoming super fucking jealous and dominant. He just believes that he has to be that top guy, and most of the time we let him cause hes just a dick. Fuck politics, I'm here to have fun. So I just ignore him and just keep pissing him off.

I've always been the trolling anarchist in the house anyways. It's in my nature to fight stuff that I don't agree with, and not with violence, but with psychological warfare. I may not get results right away, but it sure does plant a seed that changes them eventually.

lol maybe I am the asshole here.
