Yeah, when I think punk, I either think p-bass -> svt, or of you're going more for that nasty, trashy punk distortion thing, then the first thing I think of is the Rat. And if you're gonna get a Rat, then check out the Fuzzrocious offerings.

when anyone mentions punk bass Rancid is the first thing to come to mind. MAtt is such a bad ass. The epitome of punk bass
i fucking love matt freeman. I don't even play bass, but the man if anyone could convince me to play one, it would be him.

Sorry for the threadjack, but:
Matt Freeman is one of my favorite bassists to listen to, on earth, period. I wouldn't exactly call him an influence, because my playing style sounds nothing like him. But he influenced me in the sense of showing dumb-as-shit 14-year-old me that bass doesn't just have to be root notes and blues walks and bullshit like that. Bass could be the centerpiece of a song, and you don't have to be Les Claypool to do it, either.

Looks like it is P Bass into a Fender Bassman Pro series instead of SVT for Matt Freeman.
Just sayin'

I agree on the Pbass>SVT thing in a way and way no because when I think of punk bass I think of guys using shitty sounding amps turned up too loud

So yeah a RAT would help get there or a HAO Rust Ride which is my go-to for punk rock sounds but.. why do what has been already been done? Why not use a crazy nasty fuzz.

Rust Ride rules balls on bass, but I associate that sound with doom more than anything.
Rat.
OR, say fuck the man, get a MKI tonebender.

for really grindy stuff, a Rat; for mean and dirty without full-on fuzz, try a Distortion+. seriously.
