Well I'm intimidated by it, but it seems like the only real concern is razor burn. I've been wanting a safety razor for a while now. Something about nearly 10 bucks a pop for a pack of decent (but still shitty) disposable razors,...or extortionist prices for 9 bladed (hyperbole) refill cartridges you have to buy for those "oh sweet a free razor in time for my 18th birthday" that Gillette sends in the mail.
Or
5 bucks for 10 double edge blades and a few searches on google to learn how to properly wet shave.

My father has used the safety razor for a few years, and I've used it a few times. Remember, keep your face really wet, aftershave right after you...shave, and let the weight of the razor do the work.
Looks at you, becoming a man on your birthday!

My facial hair destroys all but the costliest of electric razors.
Fun Fact,...the neighborhood kids; who hated me, used to call me Hoy Boy the Belo Boy when I was growing up. Belo being a "
Gross Out" style discount grocery store that was up the street.

I've shaved with a safety razor for most of my shaving career. I wouldn't shave with anything else.
(I've always entertained the thought of getting a straight razor, but I've got sensitive skin and don't like too close a shave.)
Yeah, I'm a fan of appropriate technology and a safety razor's appropriate enough for me.
I'm also reminded of the SNL parody of razor commercials from the '70s. They were making fun of a triple bladed razor.

Joke's on them.

I definitely like the Safety Razor,...at this point it's a cost effectiveness thing. I didn't get as close of a shave and it was more time consuming but for a first timer I expected it to be that way. I'll have to adjust my morning routine,...(bathe then shave instead of the other way around) and I'll get the hang of it and get a better shave when I start making it a daily part of said routine (I'm lazy when it comes to shaving,...it's normally a pain in my ass but having the right tool makes it more enjoyable hence more motivated,...gah,...so much for a Playoff Beard this year).

I don't shave except my neck. Cheapie ones are ok, but the mega expensive five blade ones are damn awesome. Fuck if I'm gonna pay that much though.
Oh, and happy birthday!

Yeah, bathing then shaving is definitely the way to go. The hot water opens up your pores and you get a better shave.
