yep, I'm a shift worker as well, 5 to 5 days and nights.
I've probably averaged 60+ hours a week for the past two years,
with LOTS of 72 and 84 hour weeks in there.
I do get paid for every hour I work, and overtime money buys lots of cool gear.
that said, I'm ready for some time off to PLAY some of this damn gear.
it really affects your health as well, the lack of sleep, the bad food you eat when you just don't have time to prepare healthy grub, etc...

This shit needs to get a whole lot better, in a fucking hurry.
Fuck I hope you aren't on salary dude. I feel bad when people get overworked like that and not compensated for it.
For me,...no complaints. 3 day weekends and it's slow time at work so I'm pretty much keep to around 30 hours a week. Sucks on the paychecks,...but I like time to relax more than I like money. Work to live not the other way around.
Course I don't have mouths to feed and the wife's job is pretty solid.
I was salary until a couple months ago, when they shifted me back to hourly. But my boss tends to be quite a bitch about approving overtime, whether I actually work it or not. So I end up having to negotiate how many hours of overtime I actually get to claim on my timesheet every paycheck.
That's illegal, I'd be contacting my congressman as well as a lawyer to file a suit against them for wage and hour theft.

Yeah, it's illegal. And then they fire me for reporting it, which is also illegal. And then over the next 9-12 months while I'm waiting for my case to get to court, I go bankrupt and lose my house. The beauty of the American legal system.

I don't have it nearly as bad as some of you, but I could use some time off too. I only work three days a week, but I'm also a university student, so Sunday's are my only day off each week. And I know that in a few weeks I won't be able to enjoy my Sunday's off much either as I know I'm going to have a shit-ton of homework. But this is my last term of school ever (hopefully two degrees will be enough).

I do the same thing, except 8 to 8s. In 2008 there wasn't a week I didn't work overtime because a couple dooders at work were off sick with cancer. Financially we weren't that much further ahead, and I don't remember that summer too well. And I was probably my fattest because it's not only the shitty food, but the times of day/night that I ate....ushh
But I do have a great job that compensates handsomely. You just have to make sure the managers doesn't fuck your timecard over.

8 to 8 sucks, dude. if I can't get in bed before the sun comes up, I'm fucked.
luckily I'm a union worker (and steward!) and we make our own timesheets. never had any trouble getting the money I deserved, thank goodness.
but yes yes yes to everything else. I have bought some radd gear over the last few years thanks to all the OT, though!

I'm unionized too, but at times the union acts more like a ball-less scrotum. Our union is notorious for being a breeding ground for up and coming managers. There are only a few members that like to resist the fuckery. But in all fairness the boss' don't really mess with legit overtime, they just have a hard time understanding the more abnormal call-ins.
Lucky for me I work a sort of a necessity job. I work at a drinking water treatment plant. Our federal and provincial governments have been clamping down on regulations here, which only means my job seems to get safer.

Seriously need time off. Always 60-80 hours a week.
I just quit my weekend job last week so I would have more free time, and then because I didn't have that job anymore I took on 3 new projects.
