+1. Saying you hate TV because of crap life Fear Factor and other reality tv is like saying that because Lady Gaga and Kanye suck you hate all music.

Do yourselves a favor and get cable and only turn it on after 10pm

Is cable free? No,...I have to pay for it? Well Do I get to stay home and watch it 24 hours a day 7 days a week? No? I have to work and sometimes sleep? Seems like an awful lot of money get's wasted to me paying for something that's essentially on all the time but is only being used a fraction of the time (you could make the same argument for internetz,...but I NEED MY INTERNETZ).

Look I'll admit that there is some legitimately decent programming on TV,...but not enough to justify getting raped in the ass by Comshaft, or Direct TV (the only cable/sat providers in my market). If they made so I could get the 5 or 6 channels that interest me and not have to pay for the other 300 or so channels of garbage, or charged me for what I view (not in a PPV manner) maybe I could consider having cable.

This is one time where being called a hater hits the nail on the head and I don't mind it.

I HATE TV.

 Here is a smiley to let know that I'm not trying to be an asshole,...we just have a difference in opinion and I have better things to spend my money on.

Preowww! Somebody is a sassy-pants. ;)

But yeah if you dislike the distribution there's certainly alternatives. All I'm saying is there's good content buried underneath the shit, you just need a way to find it (torrent that shiiiiiiit!). I'm just talking about content.

I have a very involved love/hate relationship and overall fascination with TV programming, so it just irritates me when people dismiss it as being all bad/dumbing (if you're watching stupid shows, you're probably already stupid). I'll certainly agree that at least 75% of it is not worth watching, but FOR ME stuff like public access, Adult Swim, and late-night local commercials make it worth at least having a cruddy set and basic cable.

content, content...
blah
...could come via a different distribution channel.

I hate TV in general. Deal with it.

T*****ing is really the only way for me to get the content I want, which is largely limited to Hockey Games. I've had cable in the past,....but cutting the cord was honestly one of the best decisions I made. I'd rather buy DVD's of the programs I like rather then give Comcast any more money than I have too (they are my ISP and are really the best provider in the area,...in this instance the pros outweigh the cons).

I used to love watching the WRC content that they would show on Speed Network but they stopped showing that. Hockey games for the team I follow are largely unavailable as I live nowhere near that market (Philly). I could pay extra to watch all those games or I could stream to my computer via NHL Gamecenter Live,...but my work schedule prevents me from catching those games and blackout restrictions and the lack of a true DVR function for that service (GCL) means that it's not worth me paying for. They make games available 48hours after they are played but with T*****ing I have access to them as soon as I get home from work (provided that a capper is up on it,...unfortunately the Flyers supplier retired from capping games and I have to rely on away feeds which sucks cause homer announcers are annoying,...especially the NESN and CSN Pittsburgh crews).

Discovery Channel used to be excellent but they have really jumped the shark in the past decade or so. History channel is pretty great.

There has just never really been any program where I felt the need to plan my day around watching (used to do that with the Headbangers Ball on MTV when I was a kid).

I did do the Netflix Streaming thing for a while but I cancelled my account just to save a little money. I may have it reinstated for streaming only.

Would love access to PBS,...but I can get a current Digital TV and get that for free.

This is my final argument for why TV is good and it trumps everything:
