Aight, those are some mighty good suggestions. I know someone that I can borrow a Rat from and try that, brassmaster might be worth a shot as well. And as for the Boost after it idea, I might want to try a Sparkle Motion for that.

My Perc suffers from only-child syndrome. It has to be first, all the time. And it doesn't play nicely with a lot of pedals. THEY have to play nice with it...
Some of it's friends are the Smallsound Bigsound Mini, Rat and believe it or not... the Rangemaster.
HP > Rangemaster...
:O
So yes... given that the Sparkle Motion is kinda-sorta like the Rangemaster.
So much win!
The other thing I find useful, is that my HP has a switch that takes the fancy, expensive doohickies out of the circuit.
I usually run it that way...
SOOOOO loud - SO. LOUD.
Not as gritty, but all of the sustain/compression... and plenty of saggy fuzzy goodness still in there.
I'm usually dialed-up for med/light and plenty loud.
The Rangemaster pushes it in to chaos-mode.
And the sustaining feedback is incredible.

mine is just the opposite, i've got the collins interfax clone and it does its magic behind other pedals.

and it works with what ever i plug into it. was just playing with a maestro filter sample/hold into the hp-1 and it was incredible. put the hp-1 in front and it wasn't so incredible. i think it needs some waveform to do its thing upon.....i don't know too much about the pedal, played a fiends years ago and bought one.

No suggestions but this thread interest me as I've slowly been building a HP, and have never tried one before.

I've been thinking about building one myself. It seems like a pretty straightforward build, too.

RAT before or Fuck/Mini after usually yields good results for me.

I've had great results with any of the following stacked into a percolator: superfuzz, treble booster, tone bender mkI.
Also if you lift the diodes it turns into kind of an overdrive so it will stack with almost anything, just like any OD would.
But I use an EL84 amp, maybe it just doesn't work so well with brighter amps.

Gotta say...
I'm impressed by the number of folk who have/love their HPs!
I'm a bit of an odd duck in my musical circles.

This thread makes me want to go home and play mine after work with the diodes not lifted

It is indeed. Keep pushing it to the side due to custom work for other people though, haha.
I just happen to have NOS 2n404a's and 2n3565's too

Yeah getting the transistors was the hardest part of the build for me. But Smallbear has them in stock regularly!
