I don't understand the spambot posts that don't have links in them. Like the ones with tales of unrequited love or pages and pages of Photoshop tips. WHAT WAS THE POINT

Yeah, it's not quite the same unless they're trying to sell me shit.

so how do we politely combat this? I'd say something like your first 5 posts must me moderater approved and you cannot post anymore until they've been verified non-spam, no new threads until you've been verified, or just some kind of new member verification system. Such as once you fill out your membership it sends a notification to a mod then they send a private message with 3 questions only a real person could answer, then once they reply and are verified genuine human, then they are free to post. Any other ideas?

So we have a confirmation code thing, the "are you human?" question, and a fancy little "why are you here" box... so spammers can just... sign themselves up?

... or do they have someone on the inside?

WHO IS GUNNER AND WHY WAS HE RECALLED

This is dead easy to do in phpBB and would be my choice for a solution.

well, that fancy lil AI conversation webpage that was listed around here somewhere is capable of answering such questions automatically with a somewhat relevent answer, and the mods probably don't check those answers just that they got answered. If they are checked afterwards via pm, with real questions that must be responded to with viable answers that would help eliminate them. At the same time that does add more work for the mods to do which can make them kinda grumpy....

Because the album he was on didn't do very well.

I liked it though.

i thought it was really easy because i've been on a few different forums that had very similar ways of verification and rules of newbie posting. We just have to make sure it doesnt deter or turn away anyone that is genuinely trying to join and add to the site.

I would think the first one post would be plenty to determine if a person was real. :idk:

I was just thinking about something along this line, basically your first post must be approved by a moderator, and until it gets verified your can browse only. which still allows newbies the ability to peruse the shit ton of useful knowledge contained within these small frames filled with words. My main concern is availability of moderators to handle this job, i doubt theres atleast 1 mod on at all times 24/7 365, and i'm pretty sure they have day jobs too...
