Wasn't it Maxwell who came up with this 'nothing faster than light' stuff - and Einstein just used it for his theories? And now Einstein's getting loads of hassle - just cos he got some bum info?

No, that was Einstein. Maxwell's thing was electromagnetism. He also was big on the whole absolute frame of reference thing and the aether, which Einstein effectively killed with special relativity.
Einstein wasn't infallible though -- he never got his head around quantum mechanics, and he dithered over the cosmological constant because he was working under the assumption of a steady-state universe. He took it out of the equations when the universe was shown to be expanding and called it his greatest mistake. It has subsequently been put back in though, for various reasons to do with gravity.

I still think they probably misjudged the distance on this one otherwise we'd have seen neutrinos precede light from supernovae before now.

More importantly, have we hit 3/5ths of a mile in ten seconds yet?

Most likely an error.

Nonetheless if it is true that doesn't immediately discount special relativity. Mind you our GPS' work on the principle of relativity and time dilation has been proved on multiple occasions. It might turn out to be not as complete as was thought (which by the way was never 100%) but it'll still be useful and Einstein will still have been groundbreaking and smart as tits

i'm going with "anomalous result is anomalous."just in the last decade i've been told that there was "evidence of life on Mars" that didn't pan out on further examination so many times that i'm not buying anything that isn't checked, double-checked, peer-reviewed, and (if possible) replicated. it would certainly raise interesting questions, though, and drive the making-science-and-mysticism-meet types go absolutely batty for at least 25 years.

I will not go batty at all :p science is merely a ruse so you don't get in the way of those that practice magic :thumb: :p

but mysticism is already at least 25 years ahead of science, so at best this will put science on equal footing
