the key is to ask students. they're all eager beavers.
also, basically 60% of all band posters on cleveland are done by like 2 guys. ain't no slackin on the graphic design department here
and by students you mean elementary school students, correct?
Seriously, just have a little kid doodle something in crayon and use that as a whatever we were talking about.
"*throws canvas across room* This is bullshit Emilio i said draw me wearing sunglasses with two pretty ladies on each side and a pit with my enemies in despair and fire based agony and a smiling sunglasses wearing sun. You used crayon? What the fuck is this shit? Do you want me to take your mommy and daddy away with bullets? Because it sure seems like it. *little kid crying in corner*"
you've worked with Emilio as well? That tasteless prick

As a graphic designer I can tell you some things you need to always do when working with a designer. Have all your materials and information prepared beforehand. If you don't do this, expect to have your project take longer than estimated. If your project isn't 100% ready to go, it will likely be put back in priority behind other projects. Also, make sure you communicate regularly. Many clients tend to drop off the grid at the start of work - and I have canceled projects before for that reason alone. when it takes sometimes weeks to hear back from a client, it's impossible to progress. If the job is time sensitive, or for a large amount of money, make sure you have a contract. Both the designer, and client should be protected in the event that the other party doesn't hold up their end of the deal.

i've got the basic photoshop skills to get this done (and have done my own in the past); i just wanted to someone else on board who's got experience to add a little extra fairy dust and elevate my ideas... guess it doesn't work that way.
I really hope I don't have to explain to him kerning again.
never again. next time i'll hire someone to come to my place and sit next to me as a consultant... or just bounce ideas off you guys.
So, do it yourself now, and when ba'heid <that's a Scottish insult BTW) shows up with their version with 5 minutes to launch you show him yours, tell him to fuck off he's not getting paid.

going back to the first thread where you showed us your work and your idea. I told you it was far off from anything that should be put on a shelf. in advertising, you need things to pull people in without making it hard on the eye. thats the magic and I didn't see your original concept going anywhere great. average at best with perfect execution maybe. graphic designers wont always tell you that your idea sucks when you are paying them. they have to lick your balls to get paid and the last thing they want to do is tell you that your work is getting thrown out. but in reality its all for the right reasons. the artist wants you to be a success and he wants his art to be a success with you. no self respecting artist with experience wants to take a job that he thinks will make his portfolio look like shit. they just want everyone to win and you have to let them do what they are good at while you take a back seat. if you had better concepts and execution on your own, you would have done that. you still can. art is easy. just abandon your concepts and make 5 new ones. go for the obvious answer and dont try too hard to connect the concept for the music to be perfectly translated into a concept for graphic art. good art can stand on its own. only the name is important. feel free to make up a name too. people dont care too much about if your on the cover. you might care but customers dont. focus on quality art that has some magic and greatness to it.

fuck that guy. Isn't it cheaper to buy grey card to print onto then printing a layer of grey?
again, fuck that guy.
It would be cheaper to print onto grey cardstock. But I think the printer was right to instead print the grey, it feels "richer". I can't tell from the scans, but it also gave the images some more depth I'd imagine. I actually really like those prints, but I enjoy screen prints that aren't clinical. I like the errors that screen printing can give. The only thing I don't like is where his screen "kissed" the card and smugged those rabbits(?) down at the bottom....
Also I really liked the stuff you didn't, but that designer sounded like a flake regardless
At any rate, all those images made me VERY interested in the music, so I'll be giving it a listen.

I like the silk screened jackets - yessir! Glad You found out a way without delays and further frustration. I just HATE when that happens.
The more You like to keep the ties in Your hands, the more important it is to keep to the DIY approach. But if You just are far too busy - like I am - use fresh art students that are 1. cheap and 2. still not too busy and 3. eager to prove themselves.
The worst solution I've repeatedly fallen for has been to have it done by

friends that have promised to help You out in times of no time and no money, since they probably are just as busy and broke, thus producing no results in time. Ever. And it can be bad for friendly relationship, too. Just don't do it. Rather accept the crayons and semen on photo-collage and credit it to a relative of yours taht has already passed away - he won't mind.
That's not good for You? After that there's only one option left and that's black covers and titling it something like Smell The Glove.

You can do it with every band once, when nothing else seems to manifest.
