I had to quit...i smoked for thirty years, and finally my respiratory system just wouldn't abide it any more. every time i inhaled off a cigarette it felt like i was sucking fire straight into my tubes, so i had to stop. i can't even get through one cigarette without dissolving into a hacking fit nowadays. but i still miss smoking, not tobacco per se but having something to do, to fiddle with, for my body to do while i sat around talking to someone.

I've been trying to quit smoking, and I'd been doing a bang-up job of it, until I read this thread a few days ago when it was only a few posts long. And yeah, I immediately went outside for a smoke. Thanks, thanks a lot. But I must say that dubkitty's Asthma=Bold as Lungs comment cracked me up, especially considering that the dude in the original gif is wearing a Hendrix shirt. Well done sir.

Cigs are a bastard to try and quit. These days I've been making a pack last 3 days. Ahhh, the beauty of 100's and having to go outside to smoke...

not just a Hendrix shirt, but indeed an Axis: Bold as Love album cover shirt. sometimes the jokes write themselves. in fact, the whole 21st century seems more and more like one long self-generating comedy routine the longer it goes on.

having to go outside works really well as a demotivator here, because it rains all fucking winter and thus you have that constant Deadliest Catch/All Quiet On The Western Front thing of trying to keep a cigarette going in the rain and never being able to sit down and relax.

I just quit smoking a few days ago. It sucks, but I've started feeling physically ill after each cigarette. I've been smoking pretty consistently for the last six years, since I was 13. Now seems like a good time to stop.

I also don't miss the tobacco as much as the oral fixation. I think I'll start eating lollipops.

I'm going for a smoke, be back in a few minutes

Clearly the whole quitting experiment didn't work this time.
