Legitimately Depressing you kids arent excited by space anymore. I guess instead of astronauts everybody wants to grow up to be a reality stars or make a sex tape or blog.
Takes balls of steel to sit in a tin can with electronics less advanced than your cell phones and an explosion under your ass, eh?

I'm not saying that space exploration itself isn't important or interesting. In fact I'm really not saying anything about space exploration at all, and neither are any of you. My point is that the end of space shuttle usage and the space shuttle's final flight are two entirely separate things both of them non-issues. Apparently it's difficult to explain that something not happening is not anything to talk about. Especially when the issue is something as expected as the ending of usage for a technology that has been used for literally half the history of that field of such rapidly advancing technology.
The only real information at hand is that this space shuttle won't be used any longer. I'm making the assumption that this was announced a considerable time ago(by 21st century news standards) and therefore anything at this point is just useless, subjective dribble. Reality TV was a perfect comparison. Nothing of substance ever really happens on these shows. There are minor plot points which are simply played out to an extreme through people's reactions. It's all about the exploitation of inevitable drama which really should be kept to oneself, so much so that it drastically dilutes the importance of what triggered the drama in the first place.
I'm expressing my contempt for the frivolity of the glorification of the dissemination of information which fails to really inform anyone about anything at all. After all, that's what this thread is about, according to the title at least.

Spending billions a year on something that doesnt directly benefit me at all? Why the fuck would i be excited by it. It takes balls of steel to invade middle eastern countries and completely control the infrastructure yet still make no discernable difference on gas prices but you dont see me giving a fuck about that either.

I finally looked up what you're talking about. I was expecting some guy who stole a bunch of overpriced shit from American Apparel, published a guide on how to do so and was selling they're bland yet mysteriously appealing clothing at reasonable prices. I was disappointed.
