Actually, it was Bill Hicks (the first time round).

I doubt it. The Teabaggers and birthers and fox news will figure a way to twist it and turn it against him anyway. I hope you're right though.

Remember how disgusted everyone was when you saw those crowds cheering in the Middle East because of 9/11?

”I mourn the loss of thousands of precious lives, but I will not rejoice in the death of one, not even an enemy.” <---- Nice but fake quotation wrongly attributed to Martin Luther King, Jr.

and what happened to MLK? he got shot. nonviolence only works against Anglo-Americans with Anglo-American morality.

if Gandhi had tried nonviolent resistance against the Nazis--hell, if he'd tried it against Pinochet--he'd have wound up in an unmarked grave. the success of nonviolent resistance depends on making the oppressor feel guilt, and you can't feel guilt if you're a sociopath or a dedicated ideologue. you can't defeat naked evil with love...evil will cut your head off before you get to the second verse of "Kum Ba Ya."

Did I misread that or did you just nullify your whole point? MLK used nonviolence against Anglo-Americans with Anglo-American morality and they shot him.
Ghandi used nonviolence against Anglos, and some nationalistic Hindu nutter shot him for not hating on the Mulsims enough.
Malcolm X used violent rhetoric against Anglo-Americans with Anglo-American morality and some Nation of Islam nutters shot him.

Doesn't make sense.

Nonviolence probably wouldn't have worked against Saddam Hussein or Augusto Pinochet though.

just because MLK and ghandi got shot doesn't mean that they failed.

King used nonviolent resistance to win victories for civil rights in the earlier part of the 60s; the civil rights legislation that ended segregation, ensured voting rights, etc. was passed by 1965. King was killed in 1968. in a historical sense it's somewhat inaccurate to say that King "used nonviolence...and they shot him." this was true in other cases; e.g. James Meredith was shot and wounded during an actual march. i get a little fussy about historical points is all. carry on.
