Man, that thing is BEAT. Fender Custom Shop must be jealous. I like the thing above the "bullet hole" where it looks like someone hit it with the world's smallest rake.

Pretty cool.

I want a music doc on this guitar's history.

Although if it just turns out some clumsy 16-year-old kid tried to use it in his terrible highschool metal band after discovering it in pristine condition in his grandparents' attic, I'm going to be very pissed.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know I ended up winning the auction for that guitar, may have paid a bit much, but it looks pretty sweet and it's a pre-cbs fender for under 1k. So what do you guys think I should do with it? Try to fix it up a bit, or just keep it like that?

1. welcome to the forum
2. don't touch it, that is the beautiful kind of beat up (and if anyone asks why it's all ghetto say you used it to beat up a bear).

Thanks. I think I will keep it like that, it's looking pretty sweet and any excuse to tell someone I beat up a bear is a good one in my book.

Keep it like that, make sure to get it checked out by a really good tech. Ask him about the neck, how straight it is, whether it will need any repairs, when it will need a refret, etc. Have him check all the electrical component values against a multimeter -- although don't let him replace anything unless you don't like the sound. Talk about what kind of environment to keep it in to preserve it. Given the amount of exposed wood, I'm guessing you want a slightly humid environment; less humid than an acoustic guitar should have, but more humid than completely dry.. again, ask the guitar tech, not me, as I don't know this for sure.

If you end up replacing any of the parts (tuners, bridge, etc) so that they stay in tune better or play better, keep the old parts.

Then play epic rock with it and love it.

never refinish. it looks awesome. it's pretty punk.

You might need something to preserve that bare wood in the long run though.

you've entered the forum in grand style!!! :thumb:

from the pics it appears to be all original except the finish and pickup cover.....as far as keeping value, don't change anything unless it's not playable and if you do change something don't drill any new holes or route the wood in anyway. get direct replacement parts. all that shite.
for that matter on things like the pickup cover you can just buy the correctly dated part on ebay or sumthin.
that being said...it's fukking beat and if you mod it for yourself it's not that big a deal as it's never going bring you huge money...so make it yours.

if i were you, i'd leave it just the way it is and throw some lovin' on it because it fukking rules the world of musicmasters.
