I think the one you are referring to is the Octo reverb. The Particle one is kinda like a reverb-y synth pad thing, that can do some creepy stuff if you mess with the "stability" parameter. I also like the lo-fi delay, and there are some cool filter things... and a generic Goatkeeper setting for those of us who can't afford a GK, but somehow have a $400 multi-fx pedal lying around.

I always assumed the M9/M13 was just all the DL/MM/ToneCore stuff combined. Am I wrong?

Um, what? Certain ones, sure. But
Since it costs more than any Tonecore, does that mean they're not "good"?
Anyway, looking at the models, I'm almost tempted to get it as a replacement for the Verbzilla with more delay options, etc.

But you can't save your settings? And they really couldn't fit a basic looper in there?

Yes, a lot of them are really good. The pitch shifting is some of the best as well.

I love my m13 for the most part its off im just using my fuzz or maybe the tube compressor model but I can get all sorts of fun stuff out of it the delays and reverbs are worth the buy.

Most multi effects units aren't that great, usually being filled with cheesy modulation and horrible distortion. The Line 6 M series has finally put tons of respectable digital effects in one. When I say respectable I mean the effects have a good reputation outside the multi effects. If that makes sense?

I agree. Plus I think there have been awesome multi-effects units in the past... they've just been way out of the realm of us wannabes being able to afford it. Eventide and Lexicon have been putting out solid stuff for years, and even recently the Fractal Audio Axe-Fx. The Line-6 stuff was the first legit multi that wasn't marketed towards studio engineers, and A-list guitarists.

so ive spent the weekend playing with the m5
and have a quick review

look some of it was great i was really surprised by some of the patches e.g tube drive, the phasers and flangers, the fuzz face, stuff like that

but for the majority of it they were kinda just the same patch slightly altered
majority of the reverbs were terrible
the 63 spring beyond crap
all the others just sounded the same

the delays were shite too they also just sounded the same over and over

its a neet pedal but yeah i was hoping for decent verbs
and its doesnt seem to like want to do anything negative
like i was trying to get any of the delays or flangers to oscillate and make wacky noises and it seemed like they just capped that stuff off

it would be great for some or perfect for like a session esq guitarist or someone doing shows as work to make it easy on themselves
but yeah take what u like from it

i love my M9. but i don't use anything other than the delays/modulations and the looper which is really fun and easy to use. i wouldn't get one for the distortions. they're not terrible, but they don't come anywhere close to sounding like a real distortion/fuzz pedal.

there seems to be an odd presence issue with them which makes them sound fake
the entire pedal seems designed for a niche market of guitarists

from my conversation with a Sam Ash employee, "it's pretty much shoegaze in a box".

Weird, I thought the drives were lacking and found most of the modulation so-so but LOVED the delays/verbs/filters/comps.

The M9 was a noise machine...some of the most out there sounds I've achieved were done purely with an m9.
Though it would be tricky with the M5, the magic happens when you start stacking the effects.

I think the one effect at a time aspect of the M5 really cripples the potential.
