I've read some pretty bad things about Eddie's customer service. I do like to browse their website sometimes, though.
Yea, they don't seem to care about customer service in the least, until you start spending a bunch of money, dicks. It's really cool to browse in person though, like a fine museum of high end gear and boutique amps. I was pretty impressed first time I went in.
Think you need an appointment to play stuff now though, as lame as that sounds.

Fuck Eddie's. If they want to be a museum, then they can stop pretending to be a shop.
KV is pretty cool, although I still haven't been to the Delmar one. Supposedly they're carrying EQD now.

Fazio's has a nice selection of stuff I like; I got to play the Blacktops and a CP Jag there.
Music Folk in Webster Groves has great CS, but it's more geared towards folk, obviously. They do have some electric stuff and cheap used stuff. I get my rosin and metal picks there. I also think they're the only place in town with Dano effects. My Talman that I got rid of last year came from there.
I really like Dave's Guitar Loft (also in WG). I was about to buy an amp there, but decided to keep mine. The shop is small, but they pack in some decent stuff (Orange!), and they're super nice. They let me bring in my pedalboard to try out amps.
The amount of money I spend at GC in KIrkwood is directly proportional to how much I hate it. Best part about them is they're open on Sundays. There's one longer haired bigger dude that works in guitars that knows his shit and is pretty cool. He sold me my Tele that Ben has now. The one in Edwardsville has nicer peeps, but their selection is totes lame. I did get my Vox AC4 there, though.
My favorite music shop (PM) is actually in Jackson, TN.

I forgot about Dave's, haven't been there in awhile. Also wasn't aware they carried Orange, yet another reason to avoid Eddie's!
I'm with you on the GC statement, my friend is a manager at the Bridgeton store and I've been spending tons of money there for almost a decade. It's like the Walmart of gear stores and the selection is usually shit but I'll just have him order whatever I need as I can't pass up that discount! He's saved me so much money over the years and GC lets it fly, so I guess I can't be too bitter.

There's venues that don't serve booze?

Maybe I'm from Milwaukee* or something, but that doesn't seem right. (*I mean, I can see 3 bars from my apartment's window. and I'm drinking a beer.)

Ha, no shit, it's hard to believe but I've run across a few. Most just lost their liquor license though, resulting in shows that serve only soda and water, crazy! This place,The Luminary, is a "performing arts center" so I'm wondering if they're equipped for alcohol service...I'd think so...hope so.

Ah, yeah. When places lose their liquor license here, it's usually enough that they have to close their doors, but most venues are bars every night and occasionally venues.
When we saw The Decemberists in Madison, it was in a performing arts center where their orchestra plays.
Muzzle of Bees wrote about the confusion of whether we were supposed to sit quietly or get up and dance.
The cool thing was, they served alcohol and mixed drinks, and they came in these crazy travel-mug like things so you didn't spill. Think travel coffee mug top on a pint glass. (found a pic, yay)

(mixed drinks came in a much smaller version.)
So now I've got a nice little reusable reminder of that concert

Apparently you can bring them back and reuse them, and getting them filled up again during hte concert (reusing them) is cheaper. As a result, they had absolutely no trash in the seats/aisles.

I've never been to the Luminary either. I think it's basically an art gallery... so I don't know if they'll have anything or not.
