That is a really interesting clip in that he is playing around with the whole destitue rural bluesman close to the roots of the music who has to build his own guitar out of junk on the porch of a decrepit house next to a pasture full of cows archetype. I have to believe that White knows he is not one of those guys, never was, and never can be. He might be making fun of it? I'm not sure. It is interesting to see a musician creating a role for himself and playing it out. It seems like this is what so many of the great ones have done. They have imagined a role for themselves and been very good at playing it out.
Its like Jimmy Page cultivating this whole deep, evil occultist schtick and buying Alasteir Crowley's home and having pentagrams and grimoires around while diddling teenage girls and shooting heroin.
By the way I am a big fan of both Jack White ....it just seems that sometimes he is trying to hard to appear "authentic" whatever that means in relation to the blues in this day and age.
I like the idea of making a guitar yourself the diy ethos can be a great road to self-expression.

I think the recording king lap steels that you can get at mf for $150 look pretty awesome, and they're supposed to be decent quality for the money. I almost pulled the trigger on one a few months ago but didn't do it. Now i want one again, but I just bought a drumset and my wife would kill me if I bought any more gear this month.

Seriously, be willing to spend up to $250 on an old National/Airline/Valco/Rick/whatever. Even on fleabay you can often walk away with some of these for under $100. The current imports are okay, but not in the same league.

Finally snagged one. 50s Harmony w/ an old Dearmond speedbump pickup.
I guess I'll be OK with open D/openG/openE -- anyone use C6? I just tried it on my dobro and boy do I suck.
Won't be here for another week or so, but I'm looking forward to it.
