I prefer my cabs mic'd live and in the studio. I feel like my cabs contribute as much to my sound as my preamps,....effects,...etc. I'm cool with it if you want to run a DI and mic my cab.

For real. I have a Line 6 GX that's handy for quiet night playing, but everything played through it sounds pretty mediocre to me. I don't like any of the bass amp modelers so I just don't use them, but the straight bass signal sounds horribly sterile and weak.

yes yes. bass mics are always dynamic mics and the RE20 is the king of all purpose dynamic mics. its been around for a long time. if your gassing, just spend the $500 and you have an awesome vocal mic and an good guitar/bass mic also. young guys tend to use %100 condensers on every vocal. I had a old timer skool me. the RE20 is used a lot in rock and pop and radio.

and we dont? musician hear say much.. im an engineer and have lots of engineer friends and met lots of crusty old engineers and we all use mics on bass because we do factor in amp cab and speaker choice as key sources
I use a CAD Equitek E-100 with great results. I don't use the lo filter or the -20 switch. Just straight mic into the board. Sometimes I'll use a direct feed also and blend them but the E-100 just sounds great for bass.

I saw this picture of Hendrix, all he used was a wah.... And not even the Jim Dunlop Jimi Hedrix wah, just some old thing.....
Jimi didn't realise the horrible tone suck we had to listen to every time he used that wah.
