is "cheque" canadian or just french?
I payed him with a 500$ check. (ugh, it looks soo ugly like that)... (and is 'payed' acceptable?)
cheque is British, so pretty much everywhere except the US. Same as all the other variants -- they're all British spelling, used in Australia, NZ, Canada, India ... everywhere
except the US. The US spellings are the odd ones.
But I find Canadians especially schizophrenic with this stuff being so close to the US it seems up here either/or usually goes.
But again, set Word to UK spelling (or Canadian or whatever) so you don't get the underlining.
payed is just plain wrong; it's paid.

Was not aware of such a thing.
In Firefox, go to Tools->Add-ons click Get add-ons and put Canadian English Dictionary in the text box. It will install the correct dictionary. Or you can just go get it here:

Would they really be cooler??? In fact, they're downright chilly.
Do you know why Americans decided to spell words differently? To fuck with the rest of the English-speaking world.
Centuries later and we're still getting under your collective skin. Hell, yeah.

well, i suppose you should have plagiarized (or "plagiarised" for our Northern cohort) from a race with which your instructor was less familiar, then, eh?

Me too. Sometimes people bitch at me and I say "it's the Queen's English god dammit!"
I still don't like aluminium though. Gotta go with the proper redneck aluminum for that.

in the days immediately after the Revolution we had to repurpose all those extraneous "U" characters for the acronym "USA."
