Re: Soothing sounds....
Where I live the only sounds you can hear are people trespassing and the train that's a couple miles away. So if i don't have the radio or fan on to fall asleep too, I get really freaked out.
One time the power went out in the middle of the night. It woke me up because my fan went off. Then I could hear someone outside my window. My nearest neighbors are easily over a mile away, so that kind of thing is pretty unusual.
But on the plus side I can set up my fender twin on the porch for sonic destruction at 2 in the morning without anybody calling the cops.

Yeah Hammock knocks me out super quick. I am also a huge fan of "Flood" by Boris. The climax at part 3 might jolt you a tiny bit but if the end doesn't do you in Part 4 surely will.
I also like living semi-close to a highway.

When I was a little bebbeh, my mother used to run the vacuum cleaner to get me to sleep at naptime. True story. She should have known it was a sign of things to come....
I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

Without neighbors I can be as loud as I want, there's nothing quite like playing doomy post rock around a big bonfire at three in the morning in the middle of nowhere.

But if there are people around you have no idea where they came from, so I have to sleep with the radio or fan on. Otherwise the smallest noises turn into raging hillbillies in my brain.

I need tv or music while fall asleep or else I will start hearing things because I am super paranoid.
Specifically something that puts me to sleep: Several times, I have almost fallen asleep at work, while actually working, listening to Grizzly Bear.

I have that same fear... especially as i'm drunk alot when I do fall asleep listening to stuff (I'm a curteous drunk with my headphones, don't wanna annoy people
)There is one thing though that stops that fear though, ever notice they pull out while you're asleep? You'd usually yank them out and you're no more likely to suffocate your face in your own pillow really, you'd probably notice.
I find it really difficult to sleep without some external noise source stopping me thinking though... fans are good, a TV Show i've seen before is usually the best I don't normally use music but I guess some types could work.

Re: Soothing sounds....
Playing with tone generators on the computer can put me into a sleepy, trance-like state when I hit on the right frequencies.
Same with HNW, and even more chaotic/dynaminc (if not "monochromatic") noise like Masonna, and really just about any noise in general.
The last two HNW few HN/HNW releases I played conked me the fuck out (and I often feel exhausted after entering and coming out of a trance-state while making Noise or playing geetar myself)... It's not boredom either, it just makes me tired to listen to it. I guess it's relaxing.
I can go to sleep with music on, but it usually ends up waking me repeatedly, whereas drone/noise stuff does not disturb me.

i have a hard time falling asleep if there's any noises at all.
falling asleep to music is totally out of the question unless i'm pretty much near-dead

Music has never worked, purely because I try to stay awake to listen to it because it's so damn good. I NEED some sort of fan, tv with the volume down, electric hum, what have you to fall asleep. Silence is too...creepy.

Anyone else?
