DO NOT EAT THE CENTURY EGGS!
Beautiful but disgusting.

Ah, my sister told me about these. She used to see them when she was living in Taiwan for a couple years. There are other kinds of preserved eggs that aren't as icky as these, but I don't remember what they were called...

my best friend is a professional chef, as such I'm spoiled.
I'd hang out with her at her old place and I'd see like a little bit of chicken, some rice and like nothing else to cook.
half hour later theres this straight up indian feast man, tandoori chicken, curry chicken, indian rice and all kinds of other stuff. She never ceases to amaze me with her, no joke, no exaggeration, 'mastery' of working with whats around and not just making something edible but like...(ready for the cheesy, slogan type thing?) memorable.
I've had some foods I would've never even considered trying before, broccoli slaw w/ strawberries and jalapeno? wat!? amazing stuff
....
she hasn't cooked in a while...

wait..was it Moroccan? no..that doesn't sound right...but I remember having lamb there for the first time..a little help here?

Oh! I just remembered another thing!...when my sister lived overseas, she used to sometimes send back these candies..they were like whitechocolate bars, but with candied/dried orange inside

so good!
Lamb is the best meat there is!

Most of the "weird" foods I've tried are meats.
Bison
Goat
Ostrich
Seal
Kangaroo
Oh, and from my love for sushi:
Eel
Squid
Octopus tentacles
Salmon eggs
Flying Fish eggs
and the grossest of them all:
Uni (gonads of sea urchin)

Ah yes, Japan is is a rich source for slightly strange foods.
Natto (fermented soy beans) is a bit of an acquired taste, but add some raw egg and lots of wasabi... YUM!
I also had whale once, can't even remember what it tasted like. Certainly nothing out of the ordinary.

Yeah, I'll try food if it doesn't seem toooo weird, but some of the things mentioned sound disgusting. Anyone ever tried casu marzu?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casu_marzuI've had some slightly uncommon meats: alpaca while in Peru, reindeer while in Sweden...

Zed's Ethiopian in Georgetown? That place is the bomb!
If I were to make a list of the times that I am happy to be a vegetarian, when I lived in Denver and was offered "Rocky Mountain Oysters" ranks pretty high on that list. :shudder:

I lived in Japan. I ate weird stuff.
sazae is a sea snail, and if you ask me is completely inedible. Raw, it's like a cross between boogers and shoe leather, cooked it's like a cross between warm boogers and shoe leather.
hoya, they call it sea pineapple, is like a sea cucumber only worse. Tough, fibrous, kinda fishy, kinda fruity, kinda slimy, like mango and squid together. It's a filter feeder too, cleaning up and concentrating all the crap in the ocean in it's flesh. Which you then choke down with some Asahi Supa Dorai.
I like natto though -- fermented beans that are all stringy with bacterial snot. Like some old geezer with a smoker's cough is sitting in the back room shovelling spoonfuls of beans into his mouth and then hacking them out on a plate for you to eat along with what ever else his consumptive viscera sends with it.
