I have a 2000 American Precision Deluxe Bass like this but black, and have only ever used DR Flatwounds... It's super bassy and dubby and I like it... Am I doing it wrong.?.

warwick.hoy wrote:Ah,...colored strings,...another fad I hate. Far be it for me to tell anyone not to use em,..but seriously,...ugh. I can get along with black flats on a fretless,...but the bright girly colors,...Image

I don't know.. they had a few epi goth guitars at music 6000 here in Oly with fluorescent yellow and orange strangs and it did look sort'a cool and all... but unpluged I thought they sounded like a big pile of meh..

On the pickup thang... [my power went out....]

warwick.hoy wrote:Yeah,...Darkstars aren't so much flava anymore,...but they were for a while,...and I'm wondering if it's something the boss should consider,...or if it was just a passing fad.

:idk: I think the cost puts some people off.. I would maybe care if they came in a five... But there are other vintage type pickups I would like to see on new basses a whole lot more, like real thunderbird pickups [yes I know about Lull] and EBO pickps those 30k mudbuckers are fucking cool! I know of one guy making new ones the right way :thumb: Also stuff like 60's Japanese pickups fucking rock! but because the instruments themselfs are what the are they get over looked but I tell you put one in a good bass :)*

Basically what I'm say'n is I like the idea of more pickup options other then J, P, soapbar... I'm saying this as I have been designing something that'll have a P pickup in it all morning...

No. Dubby is the shit yo! Dubby tone + fuzz = bliss IMOP. When I say bright about chromes I mean for flats.. and it is a subtle diff', they are still flats...

Jero played my bass and heard the heavyness, the rosewood helps... I keep the strings on for years cause they just sound better, good enough for Jamerson good enough for me...

All of yall are super posters on that site your bitchin about.?. So I better not see a "Make Fun of the ILF stoners and post pics of your VTB while your at it" threads over there...

I make fun of stoners all the time, but it's out of love... most of the time...... all my friends are stoners... they get me... "normal" people don't... and I don't fucking do drugs, I'm this way normally :animal:

No you're doing it right. But right is different for everyone.

I love ILF,...I won a BLOWING UP in the giveaway,...just as I reached 1000 posts and got a killer new job. No way will I talk shit on ILF over on TB. FWIW,...I like my new found perspective on TB. It is what it is. Useful and easy to ignore the infuriating bits.

Life is :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!: :!!!:

On the pickups,...looks like Darrin is interested in winding his own pups,...but I'm sure he'll offer standards as well (Nordies,...EMGs,...ETC ETC). I may come up with an onboard preamp design for Active basses; which would be cool as I can offer that in a stompbox format as well.

Hey Behindy,...my wife couldn't resist and opened up those matcha green tea Kit Kats you sent me.

if you're careful you can save the box for show and tell. you know the Japanese and their design fixation.

I had something valuable to say but it completly left me.

Anyways,

I have been entertaining the idea of a 2nd bass to complement my G&L ASAT, was going to get second ASAT but I want something that is different.

I am a active bass guy. I love how they sound.

I have been eyeing a modulus.... and I miss composite necks as apposed to wood ones. Owned an Ibanez eurodyte 5 string in my late teen's. The best part of that bass was the material that is was made out of.

I don't have much experience with active basses but I got nothin' against them. It would be nice to eventually have one. I didn't like the Jaguar Bass in active mode -- I hate those default pickups and place slightly more blame on them than the preamp. Anyway, something with a 3-band pre would be neat.

+1 man, needs more unusual pickups.

I like weird lawsuit/Japanese/Eastern European guitars a lot, in many cases more than something like a vintage P-bass or whatever. At least, I like them more aesthetically.

Best Chromes I've had so far were DR Marcus Miller Fat Beams. Fucking crisp, funky sound. Love them!

The best flats I've tried are Rotosound Jazz Bass (which is the strings I have on my Stingray right now for some dumb ass reason).

The only reason I'd use Flats over rounds is because I don't have enough money to buy new strings every month. Although those Marcus Miller strings almost last 3 months and still sounded good.

lulz. NICE. reminds me of that Futurama episode where they battle for the last can of sardines EVER and when Fry puts them on a pizza to share with his friends and they all retch and spit up the food he replies, "..... it's an acquired taste.".

SKEELZ.
