I'm not entirely sold on the Klon clone as an OD (I had one for a few hours before I gave it as a present.)
But that Klon buffer at the end of a bunch of my TBP pedals was like ass-rainbows
Bonus, it is simple, so I'm going to build one.
Freestompboxes.org thread, image:

I bring it up because you could probably just build these on separate boards and wire them between the jack and effect PCB in your effects. Granted, the buffer would only be in effect when the pedal is on.

I would work under the assumption that people are aware that an all TBP signal path is bad news. Of course I can't expect everyone to know that so I may offer a separate impedance buffer, or do what I can to educate my clientele on the importance of having at least one good buffer in your path. Hell,...just use a TU-2 and there you go.
If I do anything with bypasses,...I'd like to design a relay based TBP that is a solution to the charge buildup and pop that is common with 3pdt switches. I know that there are other solutions out there but I love the relay based TBP you find on EXAR pedals. That's a ways down the road,...but this is what I've been thinking about the past couple of weeks.

Ok so I apologized to Grygrx privately because I felt I was being harsh in a previous PM to him. I know it's not his fault that this or that is happening but I am still pissed off about being flagged for trolling for calling BrandonBass out on making a dumb ass thread. Which if you look, he only makes dumb ass threads. I didn't however realize he was from another country. So perhaps what I perceive as being a dipshit is simply a language barrier? Maybe??? I dunno. He's still a dumb fuck. I like Grygrx and I like all the mods but I think mods on the internet (aside from the ones here) usually act like they are something special because they wield the power of the interwebs!
The thread was stupid, Grygrx is human so he's subject to making mistakes like all of us. I don't have any grudges against him or anyone else there. I was in a really bad mood last night too. So I was being a dick.

Dood the mods here are just a juvenile as the rest of us. I like it that way.

I love Les. Sloppy, but amazingly innovative.
Flea ... meh. No slag on his skills, this is entirely about taste. I've never been a fan of RHCP, but I've never been big on funk, either. Which is apparently a capital crime for a bassist. But I do like his work on Deloused at the Comatorium.

i grew up about 10 minutes away from Les, went to a kabillion shows, LOVE what he's done with Primus. he was a huge "wish i could do THAT" influence on me as a young'in. RHCP.... never really loved them. the one album and most of their hits were cool, and it was neat to hear a band getting radio play where the bass was actually THERE, but mostly? meh. and fucking Kiedis's lispy ass keeping FNM off of tours? bitch ass weak sauce.

So just connect this to one of your always-on pedals, like a booster or something, and you'll be good to go? It would be best to position it mid-way or at the end of your chain then, right?

That's the idea. It claims no tone coloration. Of course YMMV, but I've read this thing is great for driving long cables to amps.

If the pedal is always on, you don't need a buffer at all.
The high output impedance of passive guitars allow the small capacitance in a shielded cable to affect your high end. Basically, a buffer keeps your signal at the same voltage, but adds current to it, and the output of any pedal will actually going to be higher voltage and current (depending on your volume settings on the pedal), so it literally doesn't matter if you use a buffer.
If the input impedance of that pedal is actually causing problems, and in my experience that effect is grossly over-hyped, then a buffer in front might help.

Nah, I'd love to do the same!

Referring to the Klon Clone?

I was referring to this post:

My basic feelings on buffers is that they shouldn't be built into the pedal so you have to always have them on. They can certainly help a lot, but as anyone that's ever stacked a bunch of Boss/Ibanez pedals together can tell you, it's not a great idea to have them in everything. The cables you add between pedals aren't that significant. It's that extra long cable you have to use after your pedals that causes problems (Unless you have a huge pedalboard), so it's really just important to get a buffer in before that if you wanna save some high end.
The talk of good/bad buffers is a bit misguided. The Klon buffer is the same, basically, as any other IC buffer, except it uses a different form of biasing and a fixed volume control on the output.
Since this is the Talkbass thread, if you have an active bass, you basically have a buffered bass. You know how everyone's always asking "How well does this work with active basses?"? Yup. It'd be just the same putting that effect after a buffer.
