That happened to me once because one of the post-people along the way mixed up the to/from addresses. I was tracking it, and then at the halfway point it started coming back. It wasn't even an international package.

MY SECRET SANTA PRESENT SHOWED UP! But it's at my mom's house, and I won't even have the option of opening it before Thursday. I don't think I'd be able to wait if I were there, though. It definitely wasn't hard to figure out who sent it when I got a pic of the shipping label. Thank you so much aens_wife!!!

Yeah dude I think USPS is just fucking slammed to death right now, probably because of Amazon Prime. All kinds of shit's going awry.
A couple weeks ago I ordered a shirt that was shipped 2-day Priority. After a few days I wondered what was up and decided to check. It was in fucking Puerto Rico (shirt originated in Oakland). Showed up like a week later

No brownies, but it looks delicious! My mom wouldn't tell me what else was in the box, apparently she taped it back up and put it under the tree....
