That's exactly how I felt, until I owned one. They sound good (in the right context), they look cool, I HATED the way it felt. To be fair, honestly, it's how I felt after playing it on a regular basis for 5 years. It took a long time for the cool points to stop offsetting how much I disliked playing it compared to the Fenders I had before. Getting a bezel for the treble pickup ring helped, but that was right before I sold it. I cut my hand open bad several times while playing and the binding used to dig into my arm/wrist constantly. If I could have found a 4003S to trade it for, I might have stuck with a Ric, dunno.

They still look freakin cool though.

You're right, it's not my business to give clearance for someone, a friend or not, to date an ex of mine. But I wouldn't expect anyone to ask for authorization, I just would like a heads up. Consideration is all I'd ever ask from a friend. Consider me and my feelings, that's all. 'She is not my girlfriend any more and I do not own her or any potential partners, but you are my friend and I want you to trust me and be honest when you say that you have feelings for someone I once cared for.' Nothing huge, just a quick consideration when you're relaxing with a glass of wine.

It's not an Eminence and may be more expensive for you, but I haven't tried many Eminence speakers: The Celestion G12-K100 and Hot 100's are both as you describe. The Hot 100 is more vintage and warm while the K100 is stiffer and more modern.

I don't think it's appropriate when we have a mortgage and holidays to pay for." If you are smart with your money and respect it then there should be no reason not to follow something you love, especially if you only have one or two drives in life. Just because you're married doesn't mean you have to hang up your dreams and let go of something that represents a part of who you are.

Dude YES. Trinity ruled. I wasn't so much a fan of the two Trinity-exclusive presets, but I DID like that it was black compared to the red Hall of Fame that is now on my board. Still love the Hall of Fame and its offshoots so much. Even more now that the editor is here.

That's about how I feel about it. Going in the other direction, me being supportive and encouraging of her, it's more about participation and enthusiasm than money. She loves animals, we have 2 cats, 2 dogs and foster groups of kittens pretty frequently. I don't just "allow" it (hate that kind of observation about things in relationships), I participate and contribute. If she wants to go on a vacation to Disneyland, I go with the attitude of having the most fun possible, not being dragged around, even if I would never choose to do that on my own. On the money side of things it's mostly about expenditures for our home that I wouldn't particularly care about. At least not enough to take the initiative, like having our hardwood floors redone, buying new furniture, stuff like that. Even then, I never treat anything in our relationship with the attitude of "sure, you can do that, but I want no part of it". We both have boundaries and we're clear about them, but I think we both view the whole "marriage is about compromise" as being about going into everything with a positive, collaborative attitude and trying to understand and share in what the other gets excited about. Not just a my turn this time, your turn next time thing.

Also...hell yeah on a Bareknuckle tele pickup for the Esquire. Been looking at some already, among a lot of choices on pickup/hardware/necks. I need to decide what direction I want to go with it. I think I'm going to make a pine body and finish it with milk paint, sealed with oil (maybe pure tung oil, maybe true oil, something satin). My last build, a pine p-bass, I'm still stripping the botched spray on poly clear coat and getting ready to try to fix it. I don't want to spray anything this time. I thought about doing a parts caster, but I have rough white pine the right dimensions to do a one piece body and a Tele/Esquire type body is so easy to make. I'm just trying to figure out how rustic I want to make it look and if I want to go all out on the parts or just keep it as cheap as possible and just get it setup really nice.

Church of Misery had to cancel their NYC date on this tour. I was pissed. I saw them at MDF last year but it was the only show I was looking forward to in some time. Their newest album is probably my #1 for the year and it's been a good year for doom metal. (Cathedral's and Trouble's new albums from this year are close seconds).

so…has anyone tried playing through a small solid state combo bass amp?

was thinking of getting a small practice amp for the living room…i saw a few fender and peavey solid state bass combo's…and it got me thinking…if playing through those big solid state bass rigs sounds really good…does the same rule apply for combo's?
