I am getting worried about the main gift not getting here in time for me to ship it before Christmas. Should I ship the box and then ship a second box when it gets here or should I go for the backup plan (I have found another gear thing that probably suits the needs of my target, and this would be easier to get in time)?

i have to get my tchotchkes and whatnots--planning on shipping this week...

If you think the main thing will get done but be a little late, I'd say send the little box with a note. If there's a chance the main thing won't actually come together, maybe send the backup.
