What do the phaser cognoscenti think about this one?

I watched the Fender clip several times yesterday. I've always liked the metallic, rubbery wobble sound on experimental modulators. (rate maxed) If you FF to about 7:20, you can hear the weirdest sounds. https://youtu.be/yJ_3dciClrw?si=AzfOL2IleoZkTumZ&t=439Gone Fission wrote:What do the phaser cognoscenti think about this one?
Surprisingly, the range seems to do more than any other control, when delivering the freakout textures. Obviously, that's generally the feedback pot's job, but the copy suggests the feedback is actually a wet/dry blend on this pedal. It's kind of surprising that the Jennings sound traces back to the 70s Fender. I knew country players used phasers, but I always imagined they were mostly relying on Small Stones or Phase 45s. I've never used the original Fender or the reissue, but I quite like the mods they've made. I'll be interested in hearing it with trem and delay.

From what I'm reading the the feedback turns to wet/dry when the Sweet switch is activated, which apparently also centers the sweep into a sweet spot. Cool feature! I like that it has 2/4/6 stage modes, you don't see that combination a lot.echorec wrote:I watched the Fender clip several times yesterday. Interesting. I looked at a few different vendors' product pages and no one explained the Sweet switch in a technical way.friendship wrote:From what I'm reading the the feedback turns to wet/dry when the Sweet switch is activated, which apparently also centers the sweep into a sweet spot. Re: i said 'State of the Phaser' - put down that razor
I came across this on YouTube last week. Seemingly, none of the big gear blogs mentioned it when it was dropped earlier this year.
The original Maxon has been discontinued for years, but thanks to one of the bloggers at the old PGS site (not Andy), these command an absurd $450+ price on the used market.
This 2023 tribute adds a square wave function and a bonus 8-stage option. (depending on your local taxes/exchange, it should be about $190 USD / 200 Euros) I was never wowed by the original demos, but these can produce some high-pitched oscillations and sound effects. Add in the bonus features and I might finally try one.

Dang I didn't know you could get 3-stagers, I thought they always came in pairs!echorec wrote:Interesting. Cannot remotely figure out how to embed this vid with the usual tricks, but it’s an upcoming JFX clone of the Moog 12 stage phaser:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?si=qSA70-m ... e=youtu.be
This seems to be the second product from the second maker of an emergent product category: the MoogerFauxger. (The other being the Warm Audio ring mod.)

I was just checking out their chorus/flanger tributes recently. Pre-order price on the MF-103 clone is $282 ($334 regularly). Opens on the 19th.Gone Fission wrote:Cannot remotely figure out how to embed this vid with the usual tricks, but it’s an upcoming JFX clone of the Moog 12 stage phaser:

I can't figure out the weird YouTube issue either. Usually, you just trim everything before the '&', but this one's all jacked up.

Re: i said 'State of the Phaser' - put down that razor
Came to express my current phaser hype. Chorus I had difficult time even getting into and have only owned a couple, rarely ending up using them in my writing or playing that much. Flanger I intially liked a lot but have difficulties really geling with (except like Lovetone Flange, which obviously is waaay out there). I don't dislike either of these but phasers I really seem to like. How many phasers is ok to have on your board? Cause I have a few I like, and then I get another phaser and really like that, and then want another and and and..... HALP!
What makes you like a phaser? Which phaser for what stuff etc? Tell me!
