Even though the components may be the same, you're paying for programming. Yes, he could technically slam it all into one package, but at that point he is devaluing his work as a programmer. A programmer does not simply say flange, he has to make the program, tweak, and tune it. It's a different skill set, but not far off from creating a circuit.

Think of it like paying for any other creative field. If you don't like the price of the product, don't buy it if you think the subjective output is not worth the price, buy it if you do. No need to villify someone for charging what they and others believe their creation to be worth.

It's not like he's just rehashing someone else's code. He's doing something out of the norm with the dynamic modes on his pedals. His pedals aren't my cup of tea, but I've got no hate for them.

But also, you know, it is a business. And probably how that dude is making a living. So it makes sense for him to want to make money. I don't feel like you're ripping people off by not stuffing every single available option into one pedal.

I don't know, this all just seems like a silly argument. The pedal is interesting. It makes good noises. It isn't a clone or direct copy of another pedal. Even if its not for you, why say "fuck them" simply because of the technology they used to make the pedal?

I like Alexander pedals.
They pretty much all sound awesome. They would sound better with top mount jacks.

Vidret is still on the money though. Maybe not with this particular pedal (but maybe.. I haven't thought about it properly) but in general guys are milking buyers for all they are worth with the Spin. Not looking at Keeley. Or Mr Black. Or any of a plethora of manufacturers.

On the other hand there is at least some development going on with a Spin. Unless you want it to sound like that EHX multi from a few years back you are spending some time in front of a computer and using your brain and or ears. This is in vast contrast to most "boutique" stuff which is just rehashed old dirt boxes. I mean, if the muff, tubescreamer and the electra drive all disappeared in a quirk of the space-time continuum 90% of prymaxe's stock would disappear out of existence.

To answer some of the questions:

All of our digital pedals use the FV-1. I am user #11 on the original Spin forum, and my dev board is the fourth one shipped. I've been active in the Spin community since 2006.

There are other brands out there rehashing stuff they stole from forums or tweaked from the ROM programs.

There are brands rehashing the same algorithms from product to product ad infinitum.

There are brands putting one algorithm in a pedal and selling it for more than what we charge.

I would consider those to be examples of "milking" it. Not putting in 100% of what the FV-1 can do in every single pedal is a bit different.

Why only three modes on our pedals? Couple of reasons. A three-way switch is a lot easier to deal with than a rotary switch or encoder. We can focus on sounds that go together. It makes the pedals less intimidating for buyers.

Could we put three modes from the Radical Delay in the F.13? Sure we could! No problem. But now we have a bunch of random stuff that doesn't go together, fit an artistic concept, or make any sense.

If you love the BitQuest, please buy one. Ryan is a great dude and deserves your support. If you like my stuff, you can buy that instead. Or in addition to. Our stuff is great value for money and sounds killer for a lot of folks. Maybe it's not your deal, that's cool - there are plenty of pedals I don't like either, and thankfully nobody makes me buy them. If anybody has any questions about our stuff (either Alexander or Disaster Area) I'm happy to answer them.

Anybody using one of these with SSBS dirt? on high treble or gain-y settings? Having concerns about stuff getting a bit too harsh and metallic-y sounding.

Well, it's a flanger. It sweeps through a delayed version of your signal, so you're bound to get peaks or notches of whatever you feed into it. How about rolling back on the tone on either your guitar or the SSBS pedal? Or you could go straight to the source and turn down the mix on the F.13, or roll back on the depth, or stay away from the negative regeneration? So many ways you can go about it, really. Hope you're able to work around it. Great pedal.

i engage the pedal with the mix all the way down in the beginning
and then from there rifle through a bunch of different sounds
it can be over the top, subtle and everything in between
the flanger is after the buzzz in this

F.13 is awesome on bass too, it knocked a Chase Bliss Spectre off of my board since it just goes deeper and sounds better. The Spectre is amazing of course, but the F.13 won out over it for my board.
