Tarantino apparently attended a rally against police brutality and made some comments the day after a NYPD cop got shot and killed and now there're a whole bunch of police departments that're calling for a boycott of his movies.

Ah ok. That sounds....politically loaded.

But no, I will not be boycotting one of my favourite directors.

To be honest, though, that movie is possibly his worst effort. If not for that epic chase scene it would really fall flat.
Actually, the more I think about it that scene is pretty much the whole movie.
I get that's it's a nice little tip of the hat to grind house, etc., kinda like an EP for cinema, but it's still not the best he's done.
It is the best car chase I've seen in a long time, however, and that certainly counts for a lot.
I was actually on the edge of my seat watching it, thinking "how the fuck can she just keep hanging on like that?!"

It was cool.

I actually liked Planet Terror better, but you've got to give it Tarantino. Death Proof was an incredibly accurate recreation of a grindhouse flick. That's the way a lot of those films were paced. Lots of nothing and then *BAM*. There's such a big lead up to the actual action that modern movie audiences won't really tolerate anymore. So, I'm pretty sure it was his intention to do it that way. He's a big fan of homage.

Death Proof sucked...i get the car chase was good and the fact that the legendary stunt woman was actually playing a role rather than being a stunt double...but to be honest, it was just really...really lacking.

Planet Terror on the other hand...that was great! How can you not like a film when the hottest chic in the movie loses her leg and then puts a machine gun in it...and miraculously it fires on command!...thats some "Sergio-Leone-on-acid" type shit!

Nice, I also found out there's a vintage garage in my new neighborhood (not too far from the pawn shop). They've got some really nice rides there. I'd snap some photos, but I'm not sure those guys would appreciate it (and I still can't find my camera cable).

I should've snapped some pics of that notchback at the garage in my old neighborhood. The paint on that was sweet.

Yeah the writing on those old grind house things is appalling, they just churned em out, so at least Tarantino was on point with his dialogue, as always. I know he loves those films and I've watched enough in my lifetime but I was seriously expecting Stuntman Mike to have an ace up his sleeve and send the film into a third act. Just for brutal amounts of tension.
It's still a better film than 99% of everything else out there.

Planet terror was rad. I love how ridiculous Rodriguez has gotten in recent years.

That 360 is cute.

That red Marauder is HOT.

I feel like the only person on earth (who's into cars) who doesn't like either the "classic/muscle" car scene, or the insanely modified/tuner scene. I find them both boring. I love beautiful, fast, more or less modern cars (defined as cars made since the early 90s or so). I don't get the obsession with old cars, and it makes 99% of car shows completely and utterly boring to me. I took my son to a car show this spring, and he seemed to feel the same way, he mostly cared about the newer cars (the only exception was the Ford GT-40 that made him lose his shit).

My son started playing Gran Turismo like a year and a half ago (at the age of 3) and the amount of car knowledge he's accumulated for someone who's about to turn 5 is simply amazing. He's mostly into the Le Mans and IMSA racing, and he's been bugging me to take him to Lime Rock next summer to see the IMSA race.

Yeah man, there are heaps of cars out there for everyone to like.
I like old rods, kustoms, and muscle cars because I love old things generally and I just cannot get past the styling.
Things these days are designed like crap and are boring as fuck. That stuff had class and was mass produced for the every man. There's something appealing about that. Design wasn't tabbed on as an extra, it was just part of the product.
Plus you gotta respect that a lot of these machines were making incrimental, sometimes bold leaps in technology to get us to where we are now. They really pushed the limits of their times.
I dunno, I love history, those beasts are a part of that, one day modern cars will be as well.

Great way to put it man!

I also just love steel and mechanical stuff more than electronics and computers. Sure turbos and all the computer stuff is neat, but it I just like the trial and error, anything goes as long as it is fast mentality of the old hot rodders and gassers. Just something about going out there and making it yours instead of getting a design team...it's just neat to see what weird stuff people did. Stuff like hand shaping curves on a car with lead, wrapping cams in expanded steel (to reduce friction) and just odd things because of limitations are just awesome.

Like my dad was going to take a sprint car rear end, a straight axle front end, a datsun 6-cylinder (I think it was at least) RWD and put it in an austin healey sprite...just why? But awesome! I think he thought about airbags too?

I think it is neat when people do trick unique things to some newer cars..but technology is converging upon best-case situations with the aid of computers and stuff...like I kinda miss the personality and DIYness of it all.

Super old cars (like model t's and stuff) I personally don't care about.

But, like Pope said, I love the style of muscle cars...and there is nothing like driving them (drove a recent, higher performance car recently...it just wasn't as fun...).

Plus I like head and leg room...
