i posted the ad for my 66 sg special over there last night, some guy posts:
"What do the pickups measure?"
so i pmed him and im like, you want me to measure the length depth and width of the pickups?
he was asking me about the resistance of the pickups. um, ok. im thinking, yeah, my name isnt Doc fucking Brown, I dont carry around a multimeter with me.
a couple pm's later he says:
"In case you haven't checked around folks do care about the output of pickups on vintage guitars...
.no, I am not in the market but as you can see, I have a lot of vintage gear...some P90s are really hot and others less so....curious about the resistance compared to ALL 60s Gibson SGs for the sake of discussion...after all, this is a discussion based forum....good luck with your sale btw."
since i can only reply to a posted classified thread every 24 hrs, we're not discussing on a forum, we're discussing on a PM.
what a fucking toolshed...
ive been buying and selling old guitars since the mid 90s, i cant remember one motherfucker buying or selling who mentioned pickup resistance...i know that personally i really only give a shit about the SOUND of the pickups...
and yeah, hes not even in the market for my guitar, hes just curious about my measurements

Ohhhhh,....well,...I guess that's somewhat tolerable.
I'm not sure what the relevance is of whether or not the dude plays P&W, but beyond that he isn't being an asshole soooooo; I say put the pitchforks down and let the monster live; for now.

TGP Clowndick wrote:Sir, if you go to forums like the Les Paul Forum, there is always discussion about resistance of P90s and PAF pickups....very common with Gibson guitars...it will give an indication of gain and tone...usually hotter resistance = more mids for one thing....P90s vary widely, the early ones can be as low as 7k which are much cleaner and brighter compared to the hotter stuff often over 9k which are much gainier, darker and middier/sometimes bassier sometimes way more compressed....I pulled the neck 8.7k P90 out of my 65 SG Special as it is too dark and bassy and went with a custom wound 7.8k with degaussed magnets for cleaner brighter chords in the neck slot......I've been changing out magnets and pickups since the 1970s, its an addiction I guess!
Our Hero wrote:give it a rest. you asked me for my pickups "measurements" how the hell would i know that means resistance?
all the guitar players i know care about the way pickups sound, bottom line, sorry i dont have a flux capacitor to let you know about my guitar's pickups that you dont even want to buy. how bored are you today?
