Oh I know. Last jam we had I was using a borrowed 5 string tuned for C standard and used the open F on that...but it just doesn't bring the thunder as much as it could. :doom:

you've got to be fucking kidding? what kind of shit is that? i can't believe a band would let that slide. what's so important about having it at 45 anyway? and guess what happens when you try and cram too much music onto vinyl? it sounds like shit. i would just be so pissed, as a band, as a fan, whatever. this actually makes me lose some respect for the label for sure.
45 is supposed to sound better I think, I believe I read that somewhere when I was looking up how I should go about pressing our vinyl. I dunno though, whatever reason it sounds bad for they never said "Hey, maybe you just got a one off bad record, let us replace it for you." I would have been perfectly happy with that even if the replacement sounded just as bad. At least they would have tried to make it right that way.

General rule of thumb is that higher speed is better sound quality.

Basically it's 75% audiophile bullshit, but if you ever ran into a situation where all other variables were exactly the same (because that totally happens and is utterly realistic), the 45 would be better than the 33.

Of course, making the songs playback at a higher bpm means that they sound different than the original anyway, which defeats the entire purpose of putting it on a 45.

I love boosting the Pharaoh with The Accountant. In fact, that's one of my favourite things to do with the new compressor. It makes the Pharaoh sound clearer, but still thick, fuzzy and mean as fuck. It adds more sustain, and harmonics that usually only leap out if you're running the pedal flat out into a stupid loud amp. I can't remember whether I tried the germanium setting on the Pharaoh with the compressor because I thought it might be too noisy, but I'll try it tomorrow morning. I'll also try boosting my Iron Horse (a RAT clone) and let you know the results. I may be able to record something with my phone as well. I'm not sure.

Yeah, Mark and his custom artist did it for a guy I know two years ago and I fell in love with it immediately when he posted pictures. When he was selling it I bought it straight away. It's the only time I've ever owned the same pedal twice. I had a very early Pharaoh from back in the days when Mark was selling in the HCFX Doom Room, but I let that one go to pay for the newly finished one.

Yeah, I would much rather sacrifice the marginal sound quality for the original speed. That's basically rewriting the music. I don't necessarily mind when songs are converted to 432hz to hit that "natural" tone as some have called it, but even then I'd feel like I was cheating the original creators and their vision.

Just got home from working the merch for the neurosis show. On top of the fact that it's always awesome working with them and their crew, they totally killed it, as usual. What a great band. A good group of folks and they take care of their crew too.

Yep. Too lazy to requote here, but it sucks that the label did that shit intentionally. I love the record, but don't listen to the vinyl because it just doesn't sound right. Oh well...
