Hiiiiinteresting. I use mine as an always on "clean" tone thing, so it'd be cool to hear that with the Ape Blaster, since I stick to muff circuits for my additional gnar.D-Day wrote:Five knobs and two footswitches! At least if this other volume control and filter both pan out. If it was just for me I'd leave it three knobs and two switches. But added flexibility is good. The 'boost' portion is just one gain stage from the Ape Blaster. It's loud, distorted and clipped to shit. So think of it as a LOUD nastyass rowdiness enhancer more than a clean boost or anything like that. The regular KWB and D+ sound so great but they fall short in the outrageous retardgain department that the true aficionado may sometimes require. That's where my expertise makes all the difference.
LOL, expertise!

Being able to still get that cleanish thing is the best part. I like to be able to get as many gain/volume variations out of one box as I can. So the KWB can still be dialed low but then you can goose the living fuck out of it with the 'boost'. I'll make some quick lousy vids in the next few days.

this sounds rad. can't wait to hear it. i would probably never use low gain options, but i guess switches and variety are good when selling something to a bunch of different folks. i've been so curious what else you were going to come up with after the pure perfection of the ape blaster.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
i never really upload pics, so we'll see how this goes. tried to pm john, but couldn't figure out how to do pics, so i'm putting them here. hope that's okay with everyone. recent cab score. empty cabs, brand new and not even quite finished. both still need a grill cloth panel, and rubber feet and neither have a jackplate or even the cutout for one yet. the BLKARM bass cab doesn't have handles or corners and still needs glue touch up on a couple of the tolex seams. both are probably for sale in the portland area.
EDIT: never mind. i can't do these fucking pictures. they were fucking huge. i'll try again some other way.
EDIT again: it worked!

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
Perfection? Shucks man, I'm blushing over here! My next intended 'product' was going to be a bass fuzz. I've mentioned it a time or two but it was long ago and I don;t expect anybody to remember. The reason it hasn't seen the light of day was because I decided it was just too much like a regular (CW) Big Muff and I know I can alter it quite a bit electronically to make it sound better (to me) and also display a modicum of 'originality'. Which is almost a laughable concept in analog distorto-boxes BUT STILL
Anyways, filter is in place and killing. Next move: Boost volume.

Re: The Doom Room: ILF Edition
All Doom amps can be recorded, so Matamp GT120, Marshall Super Lead, Sunn Model T, Orange OR120, Marshall JCM800. Or do you mean the ultimate QUIET Doom recording amp? If so, the Marshall JCM-1/JMP-1 work very well, but I'd say the best I've ever come across is the Matamp Mini-Rock. It's 6 watts of pure Doom with an attenuator.

For what instrument with what pedals?Forrrest wrote:what would you guys call the ultimate doom recording amp?
To elaborate:
Use whatever you want as long as it's working. Holy Mountain is a Laney AOR; St. Vitus used Marshalls, as did Grief; Ocean was Mesas and Marshalls; Bongzilla was Matamps almost all the way (except the very first EP); Early High On Fire is pretty much 100% Soldano pre>90's Greens; EW is mostly Sound City; Floor was JCM 800's... so on and so forth.
