For everyone in the United States, here is an international shipping tip: If you go online and print the label, and the box is under 12" x 12" x 12" and under 2 pounds, your shipping charges only be $23. Then you can just run to the post office and drop it off at the counter or leave it in your mailbox if it fits. The package does not get re-weighed since the labels done already

What rate/shipping class is that? And how slow of a boat do they put it on?

Usps priority is usually the best bet with intl shipping I find.

Regarding international shipping, my guess is that the $23 is first class. I believe those are in fact double checked, because weight is a big deal regarding inclusion on a plane.

They charge by weight, not by size (until you hit a particular dimension that slips my mind, but it's fairly big).

I'm used to paying $22.50 1st class at the counter for parcels under two pounds, $34.65 1st class for parcels over two pounds (I am unsure if there is a 3+ pound cost shift up in 1st class post). At 4 pounds 1st class is unavailable and the only method the postal service offers is priority. I recently paid $54.35 for a 4 pound 9 oz (roughly just over 2 kg) priority. Priority starts at a higher cost bracket, has an automatic (up to) $200 insurance, and does offer better chances of tracking it seems... tracking ability varies by destination and service, and I have come to expect no tracking, but am happy when it does.

Courier services (DHL, Fedex, etc) that do track will roughly double the numbers I just typed.

Transit times of roughly two weeks is about average, they sometimes spill into three, I have had one take 6 to 7 weeks if memory serves...
