Saw again, I didn't think that it was particularly great on 2nd viewing. TFA wasn't perfect but atleast the characters were likable, R1's most charismatic character was a Robot. It just plays like a high budget fan film.
Star Wars is supposed to be a cheesy, fun time - it's just weird seeing a SW film so visually dark with monotone characters.

I haven't rewatched yet because of how I feel about the "I am the force and the force is with me" mantra. So lame.

No he is right, the more I think about it the more just the existence of the abortion of a snooze fest offends me. The CG Peter Cushing thing was pathetic on so many levels, as was using the actual footage from A New Hope. Also no fucking crawl. The FACT there was no craw disqualifies it as a actual Starwars movie and therefore this lump that makes independence day look awesome not even a real movie but a rejected spot from the Mickey Moose club due to length and no twerk'n.

Actually I didn't really enjoy TFA, I mean I wan't blown away at all, I kinda liked it, but it was hollywood lame in so many ways. I really liked Rogue one very much on first view, but mainly because story wise it made a little more sense. Loved the ending.
The robot part was kind of a lame wink at interstellar. weak!
That said, I think this guy is totally right... (LFTS is so good I support him on patreon, great guy to follow if you love cinema)

I liked his review overall, good stuff.

still don't like the end, it did not make sense to me and felt overly contrived..
Also (excluding all the other stuff I already listed as hating) was the first half hour really gave me that Buck Rodgers / Ice pirates vibe, I was willing to accept cheese but then the cutting in of the old footage and CGing dead classic actors just annoyed it all away... Also as said in that vid the side trip lost a lot of momentum and time.
Also, also, without it being a "Star Wars" movie would you have liked as much.

i will just say one thing that i might have already said before.
the end fucks with the beginning of a new hope. you just gotta pay attention to vader's dialogue regarding how the plan's got to leia's ship.

Of all the stupid retcons/inconsistencies since the special editions and Phantom Menace came out, transmissions versus physically handing over a disc is pretty inconsequential.

I dunno. It's one thing to receive a transmission then have a giant space Dorito attack you for receiving that as opposed to suddenly detaching from that ship in the middle of a massive battle, have it chase you, and then lie right to face of the robot space wizard that just sliced the fuck up out of a whole bunch of your buddies to get back the information you just stole.
I mean, at the very least, that makes Leia a hardcore motherfucker.

i think it's a pretty big deal when the writers didn't bother to watch a new hope.

...just so ya know, the irony of me, calling others nerdy, with an animated gif, in a thread about star wars, is not lost on me

oh c'mon who doesn't know vader's lines from the beginning of a new hope almost verbatim? apparently the writers at disney.
nice try.
it's still an unwanted shit prequel movie.
