Re: Road Trippin' the USA ( current location: Denver!)
Whew. Its been a while. Made it through Texas and New Mexico. Our car hasn't died on the elevation hike up to Denver
Anyone in Denver wanna hang or have any recommendations on places/neighborhoods to check out?
PS New Mexico is the most beautiful place. Go there now.

I have not been updating this much due to camping/not much data/general laziness, but I've made it to California. Fucking tired as hell, so much driving. Will be in between here and the bay for like 10 days than onward to the redwoods.

If you are near Santa Rosa and want to hang, jam, or just shower I can facilitate any of that.

Well shit. I'm right in between NOLA and Houston. Late to the party. Sorry I missed you.

My wife lived up there for 4 years and Irving Street Pizza on 19th and Irving was always awesome...just passed through and it is still pretty good. The ruins of the old amusement park up on the west side of the GG bridge were neat. Presidio is neat to drive/cut through on the way some place else. Ummm....That fancy dome thing and the art museums? Some of the Dim Sum places in Chinatown were supposedly good but I just watched people eat (being vegetarian and weird) but looked expensive. Market/Powell is ok...Robot somthing in Haight Ashbury seemed like a neat music instrument store and Amoeba is right down the street. A lot of people liked Marnee Thai (but that was 9 years ago...don't know if things have changed) which is also in the Outer (and Inner) Sunset and within walking distance to the Park.kbithecrowing wrote:Im going to have a day to myself in San Francisco on Wednesday, getting into town pretty early. Haight Ashbury, Irving Street Pizza, and Golden Gate Park are all like blocks away from each other and easy walking (just park in the outer sunset because it is the easiest place to find street parking).
Gotta see the Golden Gate Bridge though.
I just drove from LA to Crescent City...there isn't a lot of hotels up north if you are planning on going that way (fires, evacuees). All the campgrounds are taken too. Willits had rooms but you might as well either just stay in SF or go up to Oregon. If you do go that way, check out College Cove in Trinidad(like 10 miles from Arcata...it is a weird trail outside the actual town), the drive through trees, the Smith River (best river in the world...to me), Arcata (good food there), and the redwoods. If you go south, Big Sur is neat with whale watching, watching the Elephant Seals in San Simeon is amazing, and Hearst Castle is pretty neat. Then go to Smith's Bakery in Bakersfield for thumbprint cookies (well, if you end up over in Bakersfield, I can write a freaking article on that place).
If you are heading down as far as LA, let me know and I'll find some cool stuff/make some suggestions.
Where are you going to be on Tuesday? I've driven just about every where around California. If you can, check out Tahoe too. I would avoid Shasta and stuff and the moment.

Sucks about the fires.
Yeah, I almost moved out to Arcata some years back. It's really nice up that way. Definitely lots to look at in the redwoods.

Ha, I almost did too. I love it up there but it is so dry right now. Glad my wife finally got to see all that stuff though. Just wish we could have stayed/figured out how to dwell in one spot. We pretty much drove up and back. I think we would move there in a second (or Anacortes, WA) if it wasn't for my wife's job.Chankgeez wrote:Sucks about the fires.

Oh, shit...just remembered...the lighthouses on the 1 between SF and Santa Cruz are now hostels. Cheap, like 27 a night and they have private beaches and stuff. They are old Coast Guard Dorms. Pretty freaking awesome but we were already staying with friends. There are some really neat places out there between Monterey and San Simeon on the 1, but it is closed between 10pm and 6 am or something right now.
Hotel Utah was an awesome venue as was the Great American Music Hall in SF.
Morro Bay has some neat stuff like Morro Rock (and the falcons), Hazard Canyon, and limestone/some rocks you can paint yourself with. Go Clammin in Pismo like Huell Howser. Gilroy garlic...
These might help:

I miss Huell...so many awesome things.
If you head down South, let me know. Del Taco!

Wheres yr coffee shop?
& thanks for the suggestions L. Im in Davis till tomorrow, then I'll be taking a train into the bay for like 5 days. Staying with Behndy. After I get back from the bay ill head north through the ave of the giants then up highway 1 for a bit on my way to Eugene/Portland. Hoping to grab a walk up campsite at Humboldt up in the Redwoods. I was down in the Pinnacles/Monterey area this past weekend and probably won't be going south again.
