some text impressions, since my demo ability is limited:

the most interesting thing about the box is the variety of the pedals...we generally tend to think of FC as the company that makes wonderfully crazy-sounding stuff, but the Operator and Barbershop are perfectly executed utility boxes that anybody can use.

i've been using an Operator i got for Christmas--thank you, BB!--so i have a headstart on testing it. i've run single pedals in it and run the entire chain through it, and it works beautifully and is dead quiet. sometimes you have to sweep the feedback knob slowly to get pedals in the loop to feed back...there's usually a sweet spot at around 1:00-2:00. i've had hours of fun making my pedals act even more like a synth than they usually do. and of course it'll function as a non-feedbacky effects loop as well.

the Barbershop is a sweet-sounding modern overdrive that gets into Klon territory on the lower-/mid-gain settings while allowing you to get some skronk with the gain and sag controls. if i was looking for an OD in this ballpark it'd be at the top of my list, but my sonics go dirty amp->Distortion+.

the RR is everything i'd have hoped for, but there are a couple of little things to work around...the carrier frequency is audible in a large swath of the upper range when you aren't playing, and the square wave as tremolo has seriously loud pops on the attack, though you can dial around this via a treble cut with the LPF. there's a warm, rubbery, slightly irregular quality to the tremolo that makes it different from a conventional tremolo. i don't know if the carrier-frequency thing is a common ring modulator trait, but i really don't see it as a problem...rather, i look forward to using it for shortwave-radio noises. i don't just love it, i LURVE it. so many cool sounds in one little box.

i've enjoyed the Four Eyes much more than i expected from the demos i'd seen, where it comes off as a bit flat. the Q control and the MID frequency level allow all kinds of delightful filtery fuzz goodness. i could see incorporating this into my rig as part of my range of filter fun boxes. the surprising thing is that it really doesn't get all that massively "fuzzy" in most of its range...it doesn't scream like a Bender or a Muff. it's much more subtle, as much a tone-shaping tool as a fuzz.

the Unpleasant Surprise has actually been a delightful surprise...with all three switches down it's a lovely dense roar, and with all three up and the ONSET up it does a kind of frequency-sweep-into-gate thing that's unique to my ears. it's EXTREMELY sensitive to pickups, though; it didn't like the Dynasonics in my Gretsch at ALL and gated everything on all settings, but loved the humbuckers in my Epiphone SG. i still have to try it with P90s.

i think my demo will involve the tremolo sounds on the RR A/Bed with tremolo sounds from my regular Menatone Pleasure Trem 5000. this will document the RR's trem function and also allow me to answer my burning question, "can i replace my trem with the RR's tremolo?"

need address for the next recipient. i apologize for the delay...i had a bad patch where i was both sick and broke. the real drag is that i was too out of it to spend all that time actually messing with the pedals...i could spend a month working out everything the Unpleasant Surprise can do.
