Superego's are as clean as freezes. The synthy part comes in because it can swell and has an effect loop. I think they marketed it wrong but it can get synthy with the right pedals in the loop. In essence it's just an expanded freeze with an effects loop.

Yea I've got the first grey version. No proto. I've got the same one you have, but maybe mines an early firmware? I think they're the same though.

Here are the firmware changes:
- Pitch shift down is cleaner.
- Added bandpass filter to feedback loop to reduce subsonic and supersonic frequencies.
- Increased minimum grain density in pitch+density and delay+density modes to give more precision over the useful range.
- Delay+density mode has more intense feedback.  As a result, delay time now 0-500 ms (instead of 1000 ms) in that mode.

The only thing you really lose is the delay time in delay+density mode, but overall I would say it's worth it for the pitch shift down and the more intense feedback.

i'm pretty sure mines has all the new bits. the gray one i had was an early model Curt sent me for an Outside The US Tourbox i tried to do that fell through, it's on a TB tourbox thing right now. i ordered an unfinished enclosure off him of the first run of the new release Particles, it got shipped to Dan Dan The Etching Man, i THNK it's done now so i'll have it back soonish and i am EXCITED. IN MY PANTS.
