I read on guitargeek that Johnny Greenwood feeds his distortion into his 85 and uses it as his dirty sound. I don't know how you feel about it Devi, but I haven't a distortion pedal that sounds anything like it should through the 85.

It also said it he uses a Vox AC30 for his clean sound!!! I've played that amp and let me say, it doesn't have a lot of headroom that's for sure. Methinks someone got this backwards maybe?

I don't trust guitargeek. It's always unreliable, for starters everything is plugged in the wrong way, he won't be getting any sound from that rig. :lol:

I want rid of it tbh; it never gets used. I only got it originally to use my GT-8 through.

Actually he DOES use the 85 for his dirt tonez (which I agree is crazy) and an AC30 for clean tones and I can see your point about it very little clean headroom, but if you listen to a lot of Radiohead songs, Johnny's "clean" isn't all that clean.

Yeah, I use an AC30 for my "clean" tone as well (I'll post a pic at some point), as does Foo Fighters (yeah, I don't like that band either, but it is interesting that the use the AC30 that way as well).

As somebody who plays the AC30 every day, I can tell you that it is extremely sensitive to your picking style. If you play softly on the strings, you can get a very "clean" sound, even as the top boost channel is cranked. As you play harder, it gains up very nicely.

I believe that the above mentioned bands use the AC30 for clean for that reason -- you can basically get both a "clean" tone and a dirty one out of the same channel without any kind of footswitching.

If you can vary your right hand technique, you can really get a wide variety of sounds out of the amp without touching a single knob. That kind of versatility is really appealing to touring bands. :animal:

Yeah the Z is awesome. It was a gift from my parents a few months ago and replaced my '59 Bassman RI which I sold to pay the deposit for my apartment.
