For the record Thee Oh Sees were fucking incredible tonight!!! Crowd were well into it. First show I've seen where there were as many women crowd surfing as there was dudes.

Interestingly, there was no DBA Fuzz War on stage, but instead something that appeared to be a custom DBA pedal. I didn't get a closeup view to be honest, so it may not be DBA at all, but the artwork sure looked like it!

It's a DBA Fuzz War with a treble boost. You can see it here:

Holy shit Donny wasn't kidding when he said their stacked amps/space echo looked concerning. WHY?

Takes up less floor space I guess?

Aw cool!! The pedal he has now is different. 4 knobs and 2 footswitches and a different paintjob. Probably something similar to that custom job though.

Whats up with the PA cab on top? Is he using it as an extension cab?

Yep. Really long sweep and it has a built-in volume control so you can add a little boost.

Yea, and if any of you guys know of anyone who clones just the boost circuit in this thing, let me know. my bud has one just for the boost when it's in bypass. he doesn't actually use the wah.

I love that the sonic youth members use the least pedals. but I guess their noise isn't quite as crazy as it once was.
maybe this is the wrong thread to praise minimal pedal use. but it's like everyone's trying to do what sonic youth can do with less.

I'm sure they're studio set ups are/were ridiculous though.

I'd be interested in a stand-alone version of that boost as well. I had the pedal for years before I even realized you can control the amount of boost. I always wondered why, whenever I turned the wah on, it was really fuckin' loud. It gets pretty saturated. I'm sure somebody on one of the DIY forums has traced this circuit out somewhere. I'll see if I can find a schematic.

That didn't take long. It's all over.

Now, all you've got to do is have someone isolate the boost and build it.

awesome! i'll pass this info along. personally, i'd just use the original. but it could be a very cool stand alone boost. not extreme, but sounds nice.

This is the first time I've dared take a guess at a circuit (I know very, very little), but I'd guess the stuff after switch 2a. Looks like a variable gain op amp booster. But as said... I know nothing!

and I don't even know what that means.

sonic youth didn't even really use pedals at all until a few albums in. But you know...when you're taking 30 odd guitars out with you in different tunings you have other options to explore sound.
