Those Sound Cities are some of the best sounding amps around. You should at least try it out.

Wow Ax, that IV bomb sounds intense. I love physics, I have no idea how it works but I'm so glad there are smart mother fuckers who know how to blow shit up with water and a charge.

Good luck Cap!

Ok, so big thanks to SEÑOR PIÑNÀĆLE. Got the Sheffields this arvo and, as I have no amp (alas) I could only give them a visual and a hit with the multimeter. Also got a loveletter, which I will post later, along with the love note Daz sent me with the ape blaster.
I'll confess now, the only reason I'm here is to trade awesome gear with you guys in a secret bid to acquire as many man-love notes as possible.
Expect vegemite at Christmas mother fuckers.

Now I just need some speakers to pair with these. Still haven't decided.

not sure if i believe the story, although it sounds like a cool story...but the guitar looks great. Personally, if its not priced like a gibson and feels good and plays well...i would almost buy it just for the looks of it...it looks DOOMTASTIC!

I play the Orange at rehearsals, but the 100w version...and its got a lot of mids and it dark as hell...i really like it. I use the dirt channel and set it to almost clean and kick in the Pharaoh, and its a match made in heaven...or hell i guess...but i have no experience with the rest...hope that helps.
Thats kinda how I'm looking to run it. Dirty channel set to clean-ish and then hit it with a Revelation. I'm thinking a little darker and more loose in the low end will match pretty good with the tighter more mid cutting Soldano.

I've never seen one other than on this forum. Same way with the Earth amp. I'm mostly worried that I'll end up trading for an amp that dies on me regularly and turns out being hard to fix.

If your using Pedal dirt I'd say the Ampeg or Sound City for sure. If your gonna mainly use amp dirt to match with the soldano I'd say orange.

That good sir is a 78 Gibson The SG Firebrand. :thumb: Yes they had volute's, along with the The Paul Firebrands of the same era. Wicked guitars!!!! I'd def scoop that up if possible!

Oh, and as an automotive tech who has seen what happens when someone rests the alligator clips (with out insulators) of jumper cables on the fender while connected to the battery, that finish and the story is completely feasible. But got damn if they wern't a brave soul whomever did that.

I hear ya but there's nothing hard to fix in them and they're built with high quality components. The later 120 is a much more complex amp and hence harder to fix and also build cheaper to boot.

what exactly does "custom built" mean? I would say no to all of those if the Sound City was hacked up and that is what "custom built" means. V4bs are really nice amps but way too many issues.

Any of those old amps if they have not been recapped will need a recap. So there goes a bunch of money there just on that alone. Usually people dont even know what recapping is about so its a crapshoot.

I would just stick with the redbear.

Custom Built is what is printed on the front panel same as the old Hiwatts say Custom 100 etc. It means nothing.

yea then my fav would be the Sound City. They are not hard to fix but usually do require a recap and also replacement of resistors since they tend to drift and fail over time. However, that is going to be a pedal crusher and not a amp gain kind of thing.

So much happening! Congrats on the babies Trey and Skip! John was at our last show and right when I walked in he was like "dude check it out!!!" and held up his phone. It was a picture of Skip's lil bambino! That warmed my heart.

In local news I have finally built a pedal board. I added delay to the mix and that was just too much crap to tear down and try to put away in an organized fashion after the set. I used a chunk of shelf I found in the basement. So with velcro from Joann's and two rubber feet from Soldano the whole thing cost me $11. After I built it I realized that I had no way of storing or transportating it so I had to look around. I noticed this cool Fender gig bag that came with a sampling keyboard I bought in about '93. It was about one inch wider than my new board. It had some light padding but it wasn't burly enough for my liking. So I dud some more rooting around downstairs and found some of those gym mats that come in two foot squares with the interlocking edges like puzzle pieces. I cut that stuff to fit and now I have a pretty secure means of carrying my goods with no money spent. We leave for our little tour next week so I'll find out how well I've done soon enough.

Lord Dying were at the top of their game when we played with them the other night and I have been listening to their album every day since. You should be too! http://lorddying.bandcamp.com/

And Skip I recall way back when I posted this Wounded Giant video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=msndwAzGrWA you were asking what the vibey sound comes from in the beginning. It's a DOD Vibro Thang. I saw these dudes twice last weekend and goddammit that is a cool sound live. These guys are my favorite Seattle band right now. I wish they had more than one studio tune up on the bandcamp. http://woundedgiant.bandcamp.com/

I feel compelled to clarify a thing too. There is no wait for Ape Blasters. I say this because I noticed that John said to Brett that he couldn't believe he was still waiting on an Ape Blaster and I really don't want the general readership to get the idea that I'm one of those builders. Brett is waiting because a guy simply cannot buy every shiny bauble that catches the ear all at once.

You too Nick! It's been all weird with the breakup. I just got a car and that has me feeling better about myself. Nothing makes a guy feel small like having to borrow the ex's car :( Anyhow, I'm trying to resurface in the world of cybernetic communication. Let's see if I can make it happen.

the tourbox will head your way in a little while so something to have and check out with John and Tony. I always appreciate your insight and constructive thoughts. Totally feel you on the break up stuff, that sounds pretty rough.
