I think all you need to do is switch a few resistors for the 6550s to get the voltages right. Metro amp has some instructions that have the mods for 6550 in it: http://www.metroamp.com/downloads/100W_ ... WNLOAD.pdf
Yeah, I've looked up the mod that would need to be done for the voltages to be right but I'm not fucking with that shit. I'll take it to a tech for all that if the conversion will help with the low end.

i bet you won't notice a HHHUUUUGGGEEE difference, but it will help a bit. i think it's a pretty cheap conversion. i like the 6550's better. the tube brand will make a difference too. i have tung sols in mine and they're awesome. not the cheapest, but worth it.

glad you like that band. i'm quite stoked on them right now.

Dudes, I rarely post here at this point. I find myself so busy I don't even have time to sleep. But I always have time for YOB. So, here's "Ether" from the upcoming Catharsis reissue. https://soundcloud.com/profoundlorerecords/yob-ether

Ok I'm on my phone and at work, so multiquoting is out. Ill try and catch up some.

AA: That's cool that she's already showing signs of personality. Its strange but I feel like I can understand my daughter a bit better than my son just because her personality is closer to mine. My son is cool though, he's like my grandad in a lot of ways.

Angry: yeah man, tonal journeymen on the same path! Conk I think you could get in on the fist bump going on here as well.
Yeah those AS Ibanezes look sweet. Check out the AM series as well, they caught my eye. I'm pissed though cause it looks like the Australian market might not be getting them.

Conk: you tried EL34Bs before? They're a bit tighter in the bottom end and have a more 6l6 kinda clean vibe.
2c yall.

I've been digging the difference that a set of 6ca7 made in the low end dept, just curious if it will be an improvement with 6550. Really though, its probably more so an issue with headroom than a tube change. I love that distortion that comes from the power section though.

Will be listening to this in a few. Still want a Quantum Mystic.

I've never heard of an EL34b. I'm not really a fan of EL34 tubes. They sound good with other people, but always sound a little harsh in my setup when I run them. I run 6ca7's in my 2204 and it sounds closer to a 6L6. Kinda like the lows of a 6L6 and the crunch of an EL34.

Not sure you will see much difference. When you run 6550s you want to lower the grid leak on the bias supply down to atleast 100k, that is a 5x increase in the load placed on the phase inverter, this will end up decreasing the phase inverter AC swing before clipping. That will actually decrease headroom before clipping.

Previously, I had only played the SubPhatty through a powered 1x15 Behringer monitor (which seemed pretty cool) but I got to try it out with my Coliseum slave and Mesa 2x15 (BlueSky for added awesome) and the depth and power of the lows just just blew me the fuck away and with the EV 15's they're still plenty of highs to rip through a mix. I feel like I'm commanding George Clinton's Mothership while destroying Alderaan.

Hmmm... interesting. I guess I'm gonna have to hear some 6550's first hand to really be able to tell if I will like it. That means tracking down an amp with them in it already. I did get some lower gain preamp tubes for the hotrod the other day. Got a 12ay7 and a 12at7. Rolled them and couldn't tell any difference other than less volume overall. That could have been because I only had one cab at home though. I'll try them in the Marshall tomorrow and see if that will help any.

I still think it's hilarious that they're reissuing Catharsis. I WILL ABSOLUTELY PAY $25 FOR AN ALBUM I ALREADY OWN.... ON VINYL.

I'm pretty sure those dudes would puke all over their Crocs if they saw a board with 3+ delay... AND THAT AWFUL MOOG BUFFER ISN'T TRUE BYPASS AT ALL!!!!!!!

I know I've said this before, but you should try the Blue Sky in front of the Coven.

Because Buried At Sea.

i am a very anti-verb before dirt guy. the lack of TB on the moogs is okay with me since the preamp/buffer is pretty nice sounding.

Yeah, the Moog bypass is pretty divisive, at least as far as the TONE PURITY bros are concerned.

Whoever brought up Catharsis, thanks for reminding me--just pulled the trigger on Elaborations of Carbon. It's weird--I dug the demo they put up on Stonerrock forever ago, but I never really followed up on EoC.
