I don't mind class D amps so much but my experience has been that they only seem to run well if you A) have enough speakers to move the air (which is true of most setups regardless of power) and B) don't throw a ton of gain at them or push the poweramp too hard.

Personally I hate everyone, so there is no wrong answer as far as I'm concerned.

I was hatin' on the dudes who call them "guitards" in a non-joking manner, and who generally act like it's such a burden to have to share the spotlight with guitarists. Those people are dipshits.

Mmmm...chocolate guitards.

I have been repping the Octron for, like, ever on TB (since it's the best fuzzy octaver EVAR), but all anyone seemed interested in was the MXR BOD (aka Bag O' Dicks, another TalkBass obsession-pedal) or whatever. I've seen several Octrons here on ILF already, which helped me realize that I should hang out here more.

Other than that, it was mostly fuzz and drive pedals that seemed like no-brainers to me, but that no one on TB seemed to give two shits about: Devi Ever stuff, T. Rex Bass Juice, Prescription Depth Charge, et cetera. The majority of people in TBFX don't seem to actually be interested in seeing or trying cool and different stuff, just in jumping on whatever the hot bandwagon is. That's lame and sad.

Part of it is the bandwagon effect, but it's also because there are a lot of people who aren't interested in the ins and outs of whatever effect is being discussed. If they want a phaser, they use their multi-effect or buy a Phase 90. They buy a Tubescreamer if they want OD. Much of TB seems to be 40-year-old dudes in cover bands so they probably aren't looking to drop a lot of cash on a fancy boutique pedal when all they're looking for is "sounds like this".

And, you know, a lot of that same crowd is dudes who are minimalistic when it comes to effects -- so stuff like the VT Bass naturally calls out to them as a "not effecty" effect that makes their setup sound like an Ampeg -- also something a lot of people associate bass with.

But yeah it is tedious. I haven't been active on TB for a while.

Yep. It wasn't like that a few years ago though. It wasn't quite as crazy as it is here, but there were a LOT more dudes into creating rad sounds, trying new shit, and overall just experimenting and pushing the boundaries of Boring Ass Bassdumb. Hence all the noise comps, experimental tone threads, and overall better vibe. These days it's become a typical music forum, much like the rest of TB. Which is fine for some, but I'm here for the freakshow, you know what I'm sayin?!??!

Anyhow:

Depth Charge = :omg:
Octron = :omg:
MXR Bass Octave Deluxe =

Frickin' Steamloafer I mean Streamliner from Genz Benz. I heard one at NAMM and it ruled face. It was the first Class D amp that I was truly impressed by since it sounds so big and juicy. I mean, I doubt it'll replace my Mesa 400, but it is close to what I like in tone. We'll see how it takes fuzz, I have high hopes for it as a solid backup amp and grab-n-go days when I'm feeling lazy.

Yeah. You want volume, get more speakers. You want 3D OMG BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM tone you need a 40 pound transformer. We have an Aguilar DB750 at work and it does that room filling thing much like a tube amp, although it's very clean by comparison (relatively speaking).

Oh and hey, keychains shipped today. :joy: There are still some left so if anyone wants one just send me an address.

Truth. I'd love to see a breakdown of active TB users by age - seems like there's a bunch of n00bz, a bunch of old farts, and not much in between nowadays. Such is the lifecycle of internet forums, it seems.

I jumped on the bandwagon for the Supercollider but I was a noob and it actually is a worthwhile fuzz for bass. I sill lovingly use it religiously.

never bumped a Supah either. the TAFM is INSANE, the Oxide is crazy versatile but not as OMG SOMEBODY SHIT IN MY PANTS as the TAFM or PPB or Stache get. i LOVE the PPB. i'd like to hear the Stache with a blend.

freaking LOVE NYC. it's so hectic in a good way. way rather sit and people watch and make up stories about people here than LA or my hood of Cali. and the women are so beautiful i fall in love all over again every 4 minutes. them and ther boobs.

I'm getting super stoked on a future endeavor. I'm going to start building pedals. I know that I'll be entering a seemingly saturated and competitive market, but in the Spokane area we only have one boutique builder in the form of ToadWorks whom I admire and respect,...but I feel like I can offer a fresh perspective and feel like I'm weird enough to put some crazy and inspired/inspiring shit out there. For the moment I'm going to work on my skills on simple clean boost circuits (like the GGG CB1) and them move on to polishing up some of the designs on freestompboxes. I want to start bending my own enclosures and working on designing my own circuits and improve or add on to some of my favorite designs (a more bass friendly Chunky Cheese,...perhaps with a clean blend,...perhaps just focus on the gated sound it uses; add an incredibly short delay to a fuzz circuit for a more mechanical sound etc etc).

I'm fucking psych'd. I'd be happy if it is self supporting and maybe helps to support my GAS.
