Conk, those pics rule! You guys look like you're kickin ass, takin names!!!
Dig it.
That is the best picture of Des I think I've ever seen. He doesn't even look that enthusiastic about playing, but BEER!!! Fuck yeah!
I do wonder at the logic behind a band with a member who has just been to rehab putting out a beer, though. I'm sure Matt's cool with it.
Hey Boxman, just start with a beat when you get stuck. Good songs are built from the arse up, as I like to say. You gotta have a mad beat to lay a riff over. I find that stuff that was written from the rhythm section's perspective is always tighter and more well formed than guitarists rolling in and saying "alright, riffs a,b,c x4 in a cycle, then a half measure of riff 39b, then alternate between bridges 6 and 9c for a while, then we cycle again but we sub a chug variation of riff x after 2 repeats, got it? Good. And make it sound awesome!"
Which is how I wrote, so don't do that.
"You're not chugging with feeling!!"
Or, "More math-y, but not like math-math."
I'm a douchebag.

I'm pretty sure Pike is still putting back the beers but has cut down considerably and is making an effort to be healthier. I dont know if anyone has the link where he talks about it a bit.

I'm trying a fresh start with a new perspective and going in for some very long slow Bongripper or Conan-esque tunes. Since this is a kinda specific niche, and typical guides wont really give me any inspiration, and you guys are all more experience than me in songwriting, how do you guys go about writing your songs/riffs?
Talk me through your own processes and what helps you, hinders you and what I should look at or stay away from PLEASE
Handheld recorder and jam. When a good riff pops up, even if it's random or sloppy just record it. Even better if you don't try to rehearse it and just record your first or second try. Do this a lot and don't be afraid to edit. Throw out 9 for every keeper. If I get inspired sometimes I'll try to improvise a whole song just to see what happens.
Then when you start arranging songs you can use tricks like alternating two riffs to make a super riff. Play stuff half as long the second time you play it in the song. Half-time a riff or play the same riff in another key like base the riff in a higher key before the chorus and then play it based in open E after the chorus so it's familiar the second time but still different.
And once in a while make an easy riff that just feels awesome to play so you can jump around and headbang.

I saw a guy walk up and lay down across some tracks just as a train was starting to pull out. It was like it was in slow motion and definitely deliberate. He cut his legs off but he was a shorter old guy and the wheel only grazed the top of his head. He was unconscious but when they took him away but expected to live. I actually think he would be better off if he was successful. Whatever issues he had before he'll still have plus he has no legs now. He was an old enough guy to make his own decisions about his own existence. I've seen a few fatal car accidents and those were more depressing to me.

Crazy trauma calls always make me wanna go eat BBQ afterwards. I don't even eat that shit but it makes me want it. You name it and I have seen it. Had a car hydroplane and hit the ditch flipping 4 times yesterday. 3 people inside, one being 5 years old. All had seat belts on and all walked away with the worst injury being a laceration to the toe from broken glass. Those are the kind of calls I like rolling up on. Death sucks.
Oh, and thanks for the Scott Kelly reference. The wife will think thats funny and possibly I might get laid from it all. She has a thing for that toothless lumberjack.

Conky's show pics are fucking awesome.
Tony needs to grab train decap pics for Infinite Flux future release. Also- got the sticker on the truck but the whole rig is so filthy I haven't taken a pic of it yet. You guys going out to CZAR and Lb! tomorrow by any chance? Two bands I've been meaning to check out and I'll be in Tacoma prior to hitting the road Wed. morning. I will be getting wasted- moreso than usual I thinks.

We were talking about going, might be dependant on how beat we are tomorrow. It'd be cool to link up and buy ya a beer or three before you head out though. Definately greatly increases the chances of me being there. Fuck it. I'll be there.
Be careful what you ask for

(not that gory but still...)
