The Beta side doesn't sound at all like my Beta's lead channel or my friends (which is probably a good thing). I like my Beta for the clean channel with a little hair in it. Most solid state amps can't do mild gain that well but the Beta does. The lead channel sounds like a cheesy distortion pedal from the 80's which I have no fond memories of. So much Sunn hype in general comes from people that don't own them and they associate the amps with the final sound of the band not realizing that Model T's especially are just clean machines and have more in common with Fender Twins than say a cranked 800 or even Matamp (which only roars when super cranked).

I hear you on all that. I've seen bands go for Sunn gear and just sound absolutely terrible for the same reason, they got it for the hype. I really like the driven Sunn SS distortion sound, but i'm a sucker for dual pre dirt like this for the many different coloration options. I wonder if he plugged it into a Sunn SS slave if it would sound more like the Beta?

In non multiquoted news, I haven't been playing guitar much recently. A lot of family in town. A lot of preparing for the baby. What guitar I have been playing has been acoustic, and I'm actually learning some old Zepplin that I never bothered to learn. Probably a good thing.

My green Tele, which I named Josephine after my Nana (bought it with inheritance cash) is as much of a fickle bitch as my Nana. Which is kind of awesome. Sometimes it sounds great. Sometimes it sounds really dead and muddy (even unplugged) dunno if that's the Bigsby or the roller bridge. Or maybe it's just a shit piece of wood. Either way it's here forever and I love it

Work has been slow at the new job since the kids are home for the summer. It will pick up at an alarming pace in a couple of weeks when they are back. In the mean time I started writing a book. A really obvious cultural analysis that somehow nobody has written yet. Doing it up in a Chuck Klosterman style collection of essays. Pretty proud of it, but pretty embarrassed to show it to anyone. Maybe I will finish one day it and show it to you guys.

Agreed, I modded a bassballs a long time ago and i put two knobs right next to the footswitch like a jackass. have to use it sideways or tipietoe to get to it.

I just bought a pedaltrain grande......

This is the only problem I have with my Pharaoh...I tend to bump the volume knob quite a lot...I see what you mean, sometimes when you stomp a dirt pedal you just have to crush it as hard as the impending chord, definitely not worth fucking up a knob on a $350 pedal...but it is an O'Malley sig, I imagine this isn't much of a problem during a Sunn O))) set.

I'd really like to give a pedal like that a go with this Garnet slave I got. Tonight is the night I fire that thing up for the first time. Wish me luck!
